Welcome to Arthur’s Gardens
A year ago, in Augus t 2006, who of us could have predicted that our beloved Arthur (“Art”)—hus band, father, brother, uncle , nephew, brother-in-law, cous in, colleague, friend—would be leaving us s o s oon, s o terribly too s oon. And that his final, year-long challenge would be a battle royale , which he fought courageous ly agains t a re lentles s and (s adly) victorious foe .
Devoted, loving and wonderful hus band to Margo, father to Shayna, s on to Doris , brother to
Norman, Chuck, Alan, and Herb, and dear re lative and friend to s o many others , “Uncle Art” was everybody’s favorite .
Sales man, entrepreneur, hockey player, community and s chool activis t, political analys t and
commentator, gentleman “farmer”—this was the Art we all knew well. But lands cape architect and gardener? This was a wonderful s urpris e . Full of energy, always bus y, always planning and purs uing s ome new venture or project, in the pas t couple of years Art paus ed to contemplate , plan, and bring to fruition, not jus t one , but four fabulous gardens on the family’s farm in Berks hire, Vermont.
Here is a brief glimps e and tour of Arthur’s s tunningly beautiful garden creations . They are a
fitting tribute and memorial to this very s pecial man we were bles s ed to know and love for s o many, although not enough, years .
