The 2G spectrum financial scandal in the Telecommunications and IT Ministry under A.Raja is noteworthy as the largest political corruption case in modern Indian history.

The bandwidth-spectrum allocation of 2G bandwidth had later come under criticism for gross irregularities.

The heat on telecom minister A Raja is rising, with the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) holding him personally responsible for the sale of 2G spectrum at dirt cheap rates in 2008.

It has resulted in a loss of up to Rs 1.70 lakh crore to the national exchequer.

In its final report on the alleged scam, CAG has said that A Raja ignored advice from the

# PM , # Ministries of law and finance, and # the recommendations of the Telecom

Commission to allocate 2G spectrum to a select group of companies at throwaway prices.

As many as 85 licences to 12 companies out of the 122 new licences issued in the controversial January 2008 decision were granted to entities which did not meet the prescribed DoT eligibility conditions, the CAG said.

The financial scam eventually led to Raja's resignation on the 14th of November, 2010

There will be further criminal investigation and action on A. Raja with reports being filed by:

the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) &

the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).

Janata Party president Subramanian Swamy said that he would file a criminal case against former Telecom minister A Raja in a special court in the first week of next month in connection with the alleged irregularities in allocation of 2G spectrum.

When asked whether Raja was targeted because of his caste, Swamy said the "Dalit cover" should not be brought in the scam.

Swamy also demanded the resignation of Home Minister P Chidambaram,

for "delay" in the arrest of an IAS officer in his ministry, who was accused of leaking confidential information to corporates ,

"even after alerts from the Prime Minister's Office."
