Meeting Notes

September 21, 2015 Submitted by Bonnie Morris

As Deena Barrett so aptly put it, our

meeting was the best thing to happen since

sliced bread! We began by feasting on

turkey tetrazzini, prepared and served by

Rita and her able kitchen helpers. After

being well fed, we celebrated birthday

congratulations with Charles DeForest,

Roger Gulbranson, Shirley Patterson, and

Kathy Wendorff, and anniversary

congratulations with Chris and Mike

Vuyancih! We had a chance to admire the

artwork done by many of our members to

be shown at the Heart Walk in Cleveland

on September 26, 2015. Everyone was

reminded to sign up with Deena Barrett at

216-410-2306 or with Debbie Felt at 440-

944-6704 for the Talent/Interest Night on

October 21, 2015! Remember, dinner will

start at 6:00pm that night only. It will be

an awesome night! And Spaghetti too!!

Deena then introduced our speaker, Cindy

Rakow, Coordinator of the Community

Health, Wellness, and Preventative Care

Center at the main campus of Tri-C,

referred to from now as the PCC. The goal

of the PCC is to provide non-insured and

under-insured adults with healthcare

services that will enhance their health,

wellness, and will offer education in

preventative care. The PCC is a teaching

clinic and opened in 2009. Care is

provided under the supervision of licensed

or certified health care practitioners,

including Tri-C and CSU faculty members.

It is open from 2:00 to 5:00pm on

Tuesdays and Thursdays during Fall and

Spring Semesters, by appointments. The

phone number to call is 216-987-3555.

Parking is available at no cost. Services

offered include blood pressure, bone

density, glucose, balance, and cholesterol

screenings for minimal fees, nutritional

coaching, hydration education, physical

and occupational therapies, as well as

We’ve Got Talent and Interests

Night with Presentations by

Stroke Club Members. The

evening will be kicked off with our

brew master, Roger, followed by a

vast array of talents: singing,

painting, card making, poetry,

crocheting and the list goes on.

Whether you are a presenter or part

of the audience, you really do not

want to miss this opportunity to

support your fellow members. In

the past, this night has been an

inspiration to all of us. Come and

witness what others have

accomplished.

American Heart Association (AHA) Heart Walk by Deb Felt

OH, WHAT A NIGHT! On Wed. Sept. 2nd the Cleveland Stroke Club (CSC) met at Kindred Hospital and had

THREE breakout sessions after dinner: caregiver meeting, survivor meeting, and art studio! The American

Heart Association, Cleveland (AHA) invited us to paint canvases for the 2015 AHA Cleveland Heart Walk and

generously provided some supplies. Sherwin Williams donated the paint. Kindred Hospital allowed us to turn

their cafeteria into a buzzing art center for the evening. We put finishing touches on our canvases two weeks later

at our meeting at Disciples Christian Church. See our pictures attached. Special Thanks goes to our hosts and

helpers: Mark Twilla, CEO of Kindred Hospital; Disciples Christian Church, Michael Long from the American

Heart Association, Cleveland; Sherwin Williams for donating the paint and hanging our art in the Sherwin

Williams tent; Geri Pitts, Executive Director of the Cleveland Stroke Club; Katie Kern-Pilch, our beloved Art

Therapist and Caregiver; Barbara Schecter and Kay Exl, Art Assistants and Caregivers. THANK YOU for

making this night possible. ARTISTS: Thank you for telling our story so beautifully. To see a slide show,
