OBSERVANCE OF VIGILANCE AWARENESS WEEK 2019

The Vigilance Awareness week 2019 was observed in SHUATS from 28th

Oct 2019 to

2nd

Nov, 2019 under the auspices of control vigilance communication (CVC) to spread

awareness on Integrity.

CVC Theme for this year’s Vigilance Awareness week is “Integrity A way of life” with

emphasis on dissemination the awareness in society to be honest in all sections of our society. In

line with the letter and spirit of the theme and in accordance with the directives of CVC. Several

activities were organized covering all the sections of the university with the aim of arousing

awareness and sensitizing the students and staffs (teaching and non teaching).

University Guards about the Integrity in their work and thought. We could muster the

support of the print media also. Which gave wide publicity to our run-up activities ahead of the

Vigilance awareness week.

ACTIVITIES DURING

OBSERVANCE OF VIGILANCE AWARENESS WEEK 2019

Day – 1- 28/10/2019

INAUGURAL FUNCTION

Inaugural function of Vigilance Awareness Week (VAW)-2019 being observed by SHUATS

was held in JSBB.

Dr Samuel Richmond in his welcome address emphasized the need of Integrity and Intelligence

to fight against corruption. Inaugural begins with prayer led by Rev. D.K. Sahu. The Guest of

Honour, Prof A.K.A Laurence Pro-VC academic affairs I.Q.A.C. while delivering address lauded

the efforts but by the University.

Prof (Dr.) Jahanara, Head Department of Agricultural Extension and Communication &

Anthropology and Social work, & coordinator of Vigilance Awareness Week was given a brief

introduction of the central Vigilance commission and also explained the role of (CVC).

The Guest of Honour, Prof A.K.A. Laurence Pro-VC Academic affairs I.Q.A.C. while delivering

address lauded the efforts must be made to eradicates rooted corruption from the mind and from

the Institution and in our activities and he said Integrity gives us satisfaction in our life.

The Chief Guest of the function, Prof. Dr. J.A. Oliver Chancellor of the University while

addressing the gathering accentuated the effect of our efforts to clean the society from

corruption.

A Mass Integrity Pledge

The chief guest told that corruption being only of the major obstacles to country’s social,

economic and political program. The pledge was administered by the Hon’ble Chancellor,

SHUATS as a part of Vigilance Awareness Week. The Faculty, offices, non-teaching staffs and

students of the university took the Integrity pledged to promote ethical practices, poster a culture

of honesty and integrity, not to offer or accept bribes, maintain highest standards of integrity,

transparency and good governance.

Day – 2 - 29/10/19

1. DEBATE COMPETITION: Debate Competition on “Corruption in Higher Education

and Government” was organized by the Department of Agricultural Extension and

Communication.

2. POSTER COMPETITION: Poster competition for the students on the Topic – Integrity

– A Way of Life was conducted by the Department of Agricultural Extension and

Communication on the topic Integrity-A way of Life

3. SLOGAN WRITING : Slogan Writing was conducted for the students of MSc.

Agricultural Extension and Communication.

4. QUIZ: Quiz was also conducted in the Department of Agricultural Extension and

Communication. Students were actively participated in the various competitions.

5. LECTURE: A lecture on Integrity – A Way of Life was arranged for the University

Guards at 3’45 pm. to spread awareness about honesty in every aspect of life, be it at

home or at work.

ESSAY WRITING COMPETITION: Organized By College of Forestry

As part of the ongoing Vigilance Awareness Week, College of Forestry organized an

Essay Writing Competition on the topic “Integrity A way of life” on 30 October 2019 at 10.30

a.m. in Conference Hall of College of Forestry, SHUATS.

The Competition was inaugurated by Prof. Dr. Antony Joseph Raj, Associate Dean,

College of Forestry, with the word of prayer by Dr. Abhishek James, and the Competition was

organized by Dr. Ram Bharose, Dr. Satyendra Nath and Dr. Neelam Khare in which 1st position

A seminar was also presented by Dr. Ram Bharose with the aim of arousing awareness and

DEBATE COMPETITION

School of Film and Mass Communication also organized a debate on the topic “Integrity is not

feasible in the contemporary world” on 30 October 2019 at 11.00 a.m. in School of Film and

Mass Communication, SHUATS.

Ms.Sania Abbas conducted the debate in which three best debaters were Arisha Khan, Mohd.

Umar and Amaar Rizvi.

Prof. J. N. Mishra, Dean, Faculty of Management, Humanities and Social Sciences was the Chief

Guest for the function and encouraged students to strive for consistency in thought, word and

deed to achieve integrity.

Dr Ashish Alexander, Dean, School of Film and Mass Communication said that one way to

achieve integrity is to always be mindful of what your ancestors set as ideals and also to reflect

on what kind of legacy we are leaving behind us.

Day – 5 – 01/11/2019

As a part of Vigilance Awareness Week (2019) to generate awareness about honesty and

fair living, and involve students with the campaign against corruption. Faculty of Science

organized a slogan competition on the topic ‘Integrity-A way of life on 1stNovember 2019.

The students came up with innovative ideas and participated with great zeal and

enthusiasm. The participants had to write and present the slogan along with an idea behind it.

The Dean of Faculty of Science Professor Ajit Paul, Professor W. Ramtake, Professor Rajiv

Khare, Professor N. Herbert, Associate Professor S. Khandika were invited guests. Faculties of

FOS not only judged participants on some parameters like clarity, theme based but also had an

interesting interaction with them. Professor Ramtake addressed awareness of the rights and

duties of the individual integrity and congratulated the students for their active participation.

Lastly the winners were announced for 1st, 2

semester gave thanks to guests and all faculty members from behalf of the participants. The Dean

thanked to all the participants and advised them to be the real contributing member of the nation

following such purposeful goals.

The Street Play was also held simultaneously in the Department of Anthropology and

Social Work which was guided by Dr. Alam Ara and the story of the street play emphasized on

the awareness about being honest at home and towards the society.

The Vigilance Awareness Week 2019 was furthered observed by NSS Volunteers.

Nukkad Natak (Street play) was presented on corruption in the field of Agriculture and posters

making competition was organized by depicting the evils of corruption and promoting ethical

values and integrity. A total 367 NSS Volunteers were taken integrity pledge. The whole

programme was organized by NSS Coordinator Dr. Rohit Lal, NSS programme Officers Dr.

Dipak Kumar Bose, Mr. Satyak Keshri, Dr. Satyendra Nath, Dr. Neena Gupta, Dr. Ram Pal

Singh, Dr. Sebastian, Ms. Mudita Srivastava, Dr. Anisha Verma.

Day – 6 – 02/11/2019

VALEDICTORY FUNCTION

“Integrity is important to create a corruption-free society. But integrity must not be

limited to economic or administrative areas. One must also strive for intellectual integrity. As

teachers and students we must not compromise with academic standards.” These were the

thoughts shared by Prof. J. N. Mishra, Chief Guest and Dean, Faculty of Management,

Humanities and Social Sciences, SHUATS, at the closing ceremony of the Central Vigilance

Week on Saturday, 2 November 2019, in JSBSC auditorium in SHUATS. The event marked the

successful completion of the vigilance week at Sam Higginbottom University of Agriculture,

Technology and Sciences.

A series of events were held in SHUATS around the theme “Integrity: A Way of Life”

between 28 October and 2 November. Students and faculty members participated in number of

events like debate, poster making, street play, walkathon, essay writing, etc. Staff and students

also took the pledge to adopt integrity as a way of life.

Vice-Chancellor of the university Most Rev Prof. (Dr) R. B. Lal, Pro-Vice-Chancellors,

Prof. A. K. A. Lawrence, Prof. S. B. Lal, Prof. Sarvjeet Herbert; Registrar Prof. Robin L. Prasad;

Directors and Deans of various schools and institutes participated in these programmes and

encouraged staff and students to practice and promote integrity at personal as well as institutional

level.

Prof. Jahanara, Head, Department of Agriculture Extension and the coordinator of

programme committee, summarized the events of the week. Dr Ashish Alexander, Dean, School
