NEW PROCEDURES - Second Collection Our Sunday Liturgies are central to our life as a Parish Family. Having said so, we try our very best to make the Eucharist flow and have the least distractions as possible. This has always been the direction the Roman Rubrics remind us to implement.

I have presided the Liturgy over the last three years here at our parish. During my time here, I have observed the second collection causes distraction by having the baskets being passed around during the Liturgy of the Eucharist especially at the Consecration. This situation prevents both the Presider and the congregation from focusing fully on the mystery unfolding in our presence.

Having the basket passed around defeats the purpose behind second collection an encouragement into being more engaged in our solidarity with the beneficiaries in need of our support. It becomes an afterthought instead of a purposeful giving.

In an effort to address this liturgical concern and to promote intentional charity, we shall be having a new procedure for the Second Collection which has been approved by the Finance Council and agreed upon in the meeting of the Hospitality Ministers. The procedure is; the basket will only be passed once for both Sunday Offertory and Second Collection donation to be placed. All checks need the beneficiary written on the memo portion.

Our diligent money counters will make sure that they are separated and submitted to the Diocese for remittance to the beneficiary. I thank you for being understanding and for your cooperation regarding the enhancement of our Sunday Masses and Liturgies.

God bless and take care.

JMJ 27 August 2017

My Dearest Parish Family, God be with us always. We are almost at the “official end of summer,” and we are also winding up with our summer activities. We have had our last Altar Servers Training, the two Workshops of our Music Ministry and the two meetings of our Hospitality Ministers. Our Hospitality Ministers are the unsung heroes of our Liturgical Celebrations especially during the Eucharist. Allow me to express on behalf of our parish family our gratitude and appreciation for your ministry. Thank you also to the Knights of Columbus for the Burger Bash and Ice Cream Social. It was indeed a night of fellowship and enjoyment with the simple yet delicious meal. This coming weekend we have the opportunity to spend time with the Lord during our overnight Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament. As we enter into the last quarter of 2017, we would like to commence it with a significant experience for spiritual growth thru “RECHARGE!” our Parish Mission on September 9th beginning with the Mass at 5:00 pm, Dinner in the Hall then back to the Church for the Presentation by Patrick Coffin. Please do take sometime so we can together be . . .RECHARGED!” I do hope that by this time you have already received your envelope that has my letter and the tickets for our opportunity drawing during the Festival de Santiago. May I humbly request that we all try our very best to sell the tickets so we can get the full potential of this fund-raising activity. This will help us provide funds for the other necessary maintenance projects for our facilities and the Church. May I ,however, continue to remind you that we still need your generous support for the Sunday Offertory that cover our operating expenses. Thank you very

much for giving from your heart. Jesus asks us in the Gospel who do we say He is in our lives. The response that matter not so much in mere words and pronouncements but in our commitment to be true disciples and stewards of the gifts we have been given faith, time, talents, treasures and love. When we take charge of the gifts we have been given we provide a living testimony of who Jesus Christ is in our lives. People see the “Jesus Difference.” God bless and take care. Love and prayers,

Fr.

Fr. Thomas

RCIA/RCIA Registration As the Church liturgical year trends to study and reflection, we, the Santiago faith community, once again prepare for those who seek knowledge and information about our Catholic Christian tradition.

The process of welcome and education in the Catholic Christian tradition is called the Order of the Catechumenate. The Order of the Catechumenate dates to the days immediately after the death of Christ.

It’s a process whereby unbaptized and those baptized in another Christian tradition come to know, understand and embrace the Catholic faith. Many know and recognize this process as the RCIA program (Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults). Are you aware we also have an adapted RCIA program for unbaptized children grades 1 through 12? We offer the adult process in either English or Spanish and the Children’s process is bi-lingual.

Registration forms for Adults and Children are available in the Parish Office or through the parish web site www.sdccatholic.org, select bulletins and forms and follow the instructions.

Call the Office of Catechumenate for additional information 949-951-8599 ext. 231
