1st SUNDAY OF ADVENT: GOD HAS A DIFFERENT PLAN

We begin the season of Advent with a heartfelt call for our own repentance. We remember God's faithful love for us, and call upon God to help us to turn back. For "behold, you are angry, and we are sinful" (Isaiah 64:4). In the first reading and in the psalm, we recall God's promises and lament our unfaithfulness and our guilt. We call upon God's might and power in order to save us. With Isaiah, we ask God to "rend the heavens and come down, / with the mountains quaking before you" (Isaiah 63:19).

Friday, December 8th our Parish Offices will be closed. Regular business hours will resume on

Sunday, December 10th.

JMJ

December 3, 2017 My Dearest Parish Family, God be with us always.

A Blessed Happy New Liturgical Year! Happy Advent!

Our Lord Jesus in Gospel commands us: “Be watchful! Be alert!” This is a good mantra for us to keep as we begin the Season of Advent. This is the time for watchfulness that is intentional, to see what lies in the horizon. Our Loving God is full of surprising providence – everyday we are offered the graces that we need to grow and mature in our faith. We just have to be open to it. Prayer is an important step in this process. It is the key to the expectation of something wonderful, a blessed moment to happen. It is about constantly having hope that we shall prevail over what afflicts us and to live in joy that God loves us unconditionally.

Last Saturday in our Noel Night we celebrated in the language of the soul: music, the reason for this season of preparation Advent – the pageant of the story of our Salvation. Love is incarnated through the birth of our Lord Jesus. His coming is brought about by the watchfulness of those who were integral to his Birth. This attitude of readiness opened them to the grace to say yes to the will of God to carry out His Will. We sang through the story of the Nativity.

We have four weeks to keep watch, to pray, to reflect and to act on the inspiration of the Spirit. This coming week we will celebrate the Immaculate Conception. We will also have the privilege of keeping watch in our overnight adoration of the Blessed Sacrament. The next day we have the Benediction and the Mass with the Sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick. Let us make sure we make use of these opportunities for grace-filled moments.

God bless and take care. Love and prayers,

Fr. Thomas JMJ

3 de diciembre de 2017 Mi Querida Familia Parroquial,

Dios esté con nosotros siempre.

¡Un bendito y feliz nuevo año litúrgico! Feliz Adviento!

Fr. Thomas

FAMILY MASS

Second Weekend of the Month December 9th at 5:00pm or December 10th at 10:15am

OUR LADY OF GUADALUPE IMAGES Friday November 17th and Saturday November 18th Santiago was granted the privilege of hosting the images of Our Lady and Juan Diego. While these images have been in procession and prayer in the Los Angeles Diocese since 1925, this was Our Lady’s first trip to Orange County and Santiago in particular. And what a greeting we gave her, a true Santiago welcome. Countless people helped make the visit a reality, picking up the trailer with the images, building a cart with wheels in less than 12 hours in order that we could move her in the procession, helping with traffic control Friday night, the pious outpouring of our Spanish members for the procession, the Spanish Faith Formation program especially the children that welcomed Our Lady into Church, the musicians who walked, prayed and performed, Fr Stephen and our two deacons for a spirit filled liturgy, the Knights who helped load the trailer, rebuild the wiring on the trailer and who later helped Fr Ed Gomez rebuild the electrical connection on his truck so he could tow the images to his Parish in Chino.

In all a community that once again, recalled Jesus and simply ask, “What can I do?” May your actions encourage others to become more involved?

Tom Haas Adult Formation

A short course developed to help non-practicing Catholics return to the Sacraments. The course was developed reflecting Christ as community, a community of Santiago parishioners extending unconditional love and support. Look here, to the bulletin, for information regarding the next Landings gathering, sometime before lent. Now is the right time to begin talking with relatives or friends who, for whatever reason are non-practicing Catholics. Congratulations to the participants who recently completed the course in anticipation of Advent. And a heartfelt thank you to the parish team that made it a success.
