Wonderful 1 Fabric Curves
and presenting a Three Trunk Show.

Path unit is used to make many designs
and is a quick and easy no-pin curved
piecing process. The lecture includes a 3
trunk show of Kay’s and students' quilts
using this great technique.
Classes for Wonderful 1 Fabric curves will

Christmas Party
Potluck and Member show and
tell, Food Drive and Auction.
The holiday is about giving , not re-
ceiving. So here’s a chance to give to
others by:
1. Sharing food with guild members,
2. Sharing your joy of quilting by
bringing your latest project,
3. Sharing non-perishable food items
or personal-care products with the
Lansing community and
4. Bringing an item you no longer
use or wonder why you bought for the
auction. Who knows, you could find a
treasure that would make a great gift
for a quilter or maybe an item you
didn't know you needed.
Proceeds of the auction will benefit
the Greater Lansing Food Bank. John
will be the auctioneer.
We already have the promise of a
Simplicity bobbin winder and the
Martelli Quilt Binding attachment for
your sewing machine. More is com-
ing!!!
January 16, 2013
Beth Donaldson will be doing a pres-
entation and trunk show on Pieced
Bindings. Classes will be offered.

PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE
Aren't we all amazed that we are in the middle of
October already? I think I blinked once and it was
summer and I blinked again and it was two
months later.
My time for the past seven weeks has been taken
up with caring for my aging "boyfriend.” Along with
my hindrance from arm surgery, this has made my
available time for quilting and beading nonexis-
tent! It makes me sad that I cannot take the time
to sit with my small group girlfriends and sew/
visit. I feel exhausted, most days, as soon as my
feet hit the floor in the morning. Any of you who
have found yourselves in this position know the
feeling . . . whether taking care of an aging parent,
an ill spouse or partner, or an ailing child, the
amount of energy you have to expend is unbeliev-
able!
In the midst of my current challenge, I still find my-
self thinking about the beautiful colors unfolding
just outside my window. In fact, seeing the leaves
turn fiery red, golden yellow, and vibrant orange,
gives me a sense of comfort and contentment . . .
and oh such an itching in my fingers to dig
through my fabric stash, haul out those beautiful
autumn colors, and put together a bear paw quilt
or a falling leaves landscape wall hanging!
Since I cannot do that right now, I urge you all to
take up the challenge - look out the window, get
inspired by the beautiful colors of nature - and put
some love into a quilt!

Connecting Corner Unit Needed: 2 - light 5” squares and 2-dark 5” squares also 4- light 2½” squares and 4-dark 2½” squares. These
smaller squares are easily created by cutting a 5” square into fourths. Mark a diagonal line on each of the 8 small
squares. Place a light 2½” square on opposite corners of a dark 5” square. Sew across the diagonal marks. Press
the resulting corners open. Cut away the underneath corner. Square to 5” x 5”. Repeat the process using dark
2½” squares on light 5” squares. Bring 2 light corners on dark and 2 dark corners on light.

5” square. Sew across the diagonal marks. Press the resulting corners open. Cut away the underneath corners. Cut
each 5” square in half so that the resulting 2½” x 5” units become a right and a left picket fence unit. Repeat the

SCRAPS
As we quilters know, there are usable, interesting scraps which you can bring into the Quilter's Treasure
scrap exchange table, and then we have those itsy bitsy pieces, and that batting we cut off. We need a
better way to get rid of this stuff.
So here are a few suggestions of ways to deal with the stuff too small for the Quilter's Treasure ta-
ble. Tape a bag to the edge of the table where you do your cutting, and put the odd, too small stuff right
into the bag. Also, keep a box, or another bag close by for usable scraps. This might help you stay away
from the giant bag with the usable and the useless all mixed together.
Now, what to do with the bag of useless stuff! Here is an idea which I have found useful. Call your favor-
ite thrift store, explain to them the type of fabric you have and ask if they will take it as "Clean Rag" dona-
tions. If they will, make sure the stuff is clean and not mixed in with pins, needles, old potato chip bags,
or styrofoam coffee cups! Put a big easy to read sign on it that says "CLEAN RAGS.” The stores end
up having donated textile/fiber stuff they can't put out for the public so some have arrangements
with companies who pay them for discarded textiles.
Please don't bring in to the Quilter's Treasures table the bags of bits and pieces that you used to bring for
the Dog Beds. Try the above suggestion and know that you are making a difference. After all, if that stuff
can be recycled and made into something else, it won't go into the landfillIf you have other suggestions,
please let me know. Thanks so much and please keep bringing in those useable and interesting fabric
pieces!
