tor our current production loading in order to
provide accurate delivery commitments. That
way, the delivery we promise is the delivery

we check your bearings and components with
more accuracy and clearer documentation
with our portable computer-linked coordinate
measuring instrument.
Beyond ordinary repairs, we perform a wide
variety of on-site technical services, including
guidance with installation and alignment, visual
and UT inspection of damaged bearings to
determine necessity of repairs and re-scraping
of shoes. To improve operations over the
long term, we train maintenance personnel,
using a syllabus we created, to help identify
a variety of bearing damage mechanisms.

While earning his doctorate, Lyle performed advanced
research on temperature gradients in fixed geom-
etry and tilting pad bearings. Lyle served PG&E for a
decade as a rotordynamics engineer, gaining substantial
design and operations experience with bearings and
vibration in large turbomachinery. He was a member
of the start-up team for PG&Es Helms Pump Storage
Generating Station and the Diablo Canyon Nuclear
Power Plant. Lyle is a frequent lead lecturer on bear-
ings at conferences sponsored by the Electric Power
Research Institute and has led EPRI courses in the U.S.,
Australia and Europe.
In addition to their academic grounding and experience,
our engineers are armed with a full set of intricate diag-
nostic tools, including the DyRoBeS codes, to help you
solve your problems with guide and thrust bearings and
runners. They can perform an analysis of rotordynamics,
critical speeds, thrust bearings, oil cooling systems and
root causes of bearing damage.

program that thoroughly analyzes the
performance of spring-bed supported
thrust bearings. Developed over two
decades by Emeritus Professor Dr. Chris
Ettles, GENMAT enables us to offer you
the less expensive option to salvage and
upgrade an existing spring-bed design,
rather than replacing it with a more costly
tilting pad thrust bearing. You could save money
and benefit from the inherent advantages of spring bed
and other existing designs.

Design Solution: Were presently manufacturing to our design three large turbine guide bearings. They are completely self-contained and self-lubricating adjustable shoe tilting pad bearing assemblies for an OEM. The bearings will replace existing parts made to older plans at a large dam in the U.S. Our retrofit design provides sufficient oil to allow start up of the unit without ancillary equipment and will simplify operation and maintenance chores. It eliminates an external oil circulation system and minimizes the risk of oil leakage into the river.
