It connects us, liberates us and gives us the tools to beathe life to more than we ever imagined. At the heart of all of these technologies is code. Code is the set of instructions that make all of these technologies work. It’s a language that most of us do not understand, but one that drives our lives. Learn the basics of coding in the upcoming Introduction to Scratch coding hosted by the non-profit CodeMakers. What you will learn: The logic of coding, a drag and drop coding language used by millions around the world, how to make an animation, maybe how to make a game, and maybe a skill that will take you places you never imagined.! What you will not learn: How to make an app. How to make that crazy awesome idea you have come to life. Harvard Law students are learning how to code. 7yr old learners in the UK are learning how to code. What’s stopping you? ABOUT THE FACILITATORS CodeMakers is a non-profit organisation that teaches computer coding to learners of all ages. CodeMakers primarily works with youth and is keen to introduce coding fundamentals to UKZN students of all disciplines. Understanding how a system works is the first step in mastering that system. Understanding the logic of computer programs unlocks an incredible power, both in the computer and in the imagination of students. The Hub for the African City of the Future (AfriHub) is an initiative within the UKZN’s School of Engineering. It’s Mission is to facilitate multi- disciplinary engagement that will result in innovative and sustainable solutions for African problems.
