will also be tough competition, as athletes typically do well on the show.

Do you think your experience playing a cheerleader on Road to Glory gives you an edge over the competition?

It does in the sense that I’m used to learning a routine and performing it, but after that the similarities stop. Ballroom dancing requires more musicality and precision. Dancing in heels, instead of sneakers, is also much more challenging, and dangerous! Maks has been on the wrong end of more than a few stray steps.

What are you looking for-ward to and not looking forward to about competing on the show? I’m looking forward to learning more dances (so long as the viewers keep voting for me). I’m also really looking forward to all of the

costumes. I love the glitter and the sparkle. Competing on the show is an amazing once in a lifetime opportunity and I’m so thrilled to have the chance to go out there and show everyone not only can I cheer, but I can also dance and have a fun time. I’m really not looking forward to elimination nights. I hope I never have to face the glare of the red light in the bottom two. As excited, as I am to participate on the show, I know it is going to be challenging to juggle my shooting schedule for Road to Glory with my rehearsal schedule for Dancing with the Stars.

Road to Glory is receiving rave reviews and was just picked up for a third season. When you signed on to do the pilot episode two years ago, did you ever imagine it would be this successful and that you would have so many fans?

I knew when I read the script for the pilot episode that I had to be a part of it. The character of Ellie really spoke to me. She’s not your typical cheerleader and I really connected with her thoughts and emotions. I think part of the reason why the show is so successful is that the audience can really relate to the story line. It’s believable and inspiring. I don’t think you can ever predict how viewers will react to a television show. I’m just grateful that they have decided to embrace Road to Glory because the cast here is phenomenal. I can honestly say I love coming to work everyday and they’ve all been so supportive of my participation on Dancing with the Stars. •

Did you know anything about Dancing with the Stars before you agreed to compete?

I haven’t missed a season of the show. My mom and I are fanatics. I did a happy dance around my dressing room when I got the call from the producers. I’ve been saying for years that I wanted to do the show, so this chance to compete is a dream come true.

You’re partnered with Maksim Chmerkovskiy. Most women would love the opportunity to dance with Maks. What was your reaction to finding out he was your partner?

Laughs. I was thrilled. He’s even better looking in person. Seriously though, he’s an amazing teacher. He has a reputation of being tough on his partners, but it’s that quality that makes him such a great teacher. When I’m ready to give up, he pushes me to keep going. I can’t imagine being partnered with anyone else.

What dance are you rehearsing for the first show? Our first dance is the cha-cha. It’s a fun and flirty dance, involving lots of twists and quick foot movements. Maks describes the dance as a cat and mouse game between two lovers. I’m looking forward to performing it for the audience.

Are you nervous about performing in front of a live audience?

Yes and no. Performing in front of a live audience can without a doubt be a scary experience, especially if you make a mistake or trip and fall while performing (something I hope doesn’t happen to me), but at the same time nothing compares to the energy a live audience provides. For me, it’s the audience’s energy that inspires my performance. If the crowd is really into our dance, I’m going to be into the dance and perform better.

“HE HAS A REPUTATION OF BEING TOUGH ON HIS PARTNERS, BUT IT’S THAT QUALITY THAT MAKES HIM SUCH A GREAT TEACHER.”- Emily on her partner Maksim Chmerkovskiy

Maks has never won the Mirror Ball Trophy, is this the season that changes? I’d like to think so. We’re certainly going to put forth a strong effort each week. It’s really up to the fans. We have a lot of great celebri-ties competing this season.

Who is your toughest competition?

I think Shenae will be the toughest competi-tion this season. She has previous dance experience and great musicality. Justin Burke
