PASTORAL CARE PASTORAL CARE POLICY: GTBPS believes in ‘no child left behind policy ‘ and pastoral care

lies at the heart of the School’s overall policy which seeks to provide a caring safe and congenial environment in which young people can develop to their full potential as excellent leaders. It aims to extend the students’ learning skills in line with their spiritual, moral, social, personal and physical development, and thus enable them to manage their present lives and prepare them for adult life in an ever changing society.

The school boasts of healthy conventions, where in the old students welcome the new batch of students with social evenings and ensure that they take on to the school life without much missing. Every student is assigned to a student mentor for the first few weeks so as to familiarize with the school infrastructure, practices and ethos. Each student is assigned to a House tutor, who acts as a local parent as well as the tutor. As a tutor, he/she is responsible for the students’ achievement in academics, sports or activities or any other co- curricular activity. For almost anything the tutor is the first point of contact for the student.

Page 40: A SENIOR SECONDARY CO-EDUCATIONAL DAY AND BOARDING SCHOOL (AFFILIATED TO CBSE (AFFILIATED TO CBSE )

PASTORAL CARE The pastoral Life at GTBPS School:

ANTI-BULLYING POLICY: Bullying is behaviour by an individual or group, repeated over time, that intentionally hurts another individual or group either physically or emotionally. Bullying can take many forms (for instance, peer bullying, physical bullying, name calling, social exclusion, cyber-bullying via text messages or the internet), and is often motivated by prejudice against particular groups, for example on grounds of race, religion, gender, sexual orientation, or because a child is adopted or has caring responsibilities.

Page 41: A SENIOR SECONDARY CO-EDUCATIONAL DAY AND BOARDING SCHOOL (AFFILIATED TO CBSE (AFFILIATED TO CBSE )

PASTORAL CARE The pastoral Life at GTBPS School:

Every child at GTBPS enjoys equal rights and access to resources, teaching and learning irrespective of his or her backgrounds, race, religion or caste. It is endeavor of the school to provide a safe and happy living space for every child. The School has a zero tolerance policy on bullying and provides all efforts to sensitise the students and prevent any occurrence in classrooms, dormitories or other school spaces. The school encourages good behaviour and believes in trusting and respecting every child and has measures in place to protect dignity and self- esteem of every child. Dealing with bullying prevention, we do not wait for an incident to occur but work with various stakeholders in preventing bullying. The school staffs proactively gather intelligence about issues between pupils which might provoke conflict and develop strategies to prevent bullying occurring in the first place. This involves talking to pupils during tutorial meetings, in morning assembly, through counselling and to work in projects together. The Housemasters work closely with tutors and councillor in preventing and resolving the issue. The emphasis is always to differentiate between behaviour and the pupil and not to club them together. It is mandatory for every employee to undergo workshops and training programmes on bullying and good behaviour.

Page 42: A SENIOR SECONDARY CO-EDUCATIONAL DAY AND BOARDING SCHOOL (AFFILIATED TO CBSE (AFFILIATED TO CBSE )

PASTORAL CARE The pastoral Life at GTBPS School:

INTERVENTION: The schools also apply disciplinary measures to pupils who bully in order to show clearly that their behaviour is wrong. Disciplinary measures are applied fairly, consistently, and reasonably taking account of any special educational needs or disabilities that the pupils may have and taking into account the needs of vulnerable pupils. However, an attempt is made to consul children on consequences of bullying. Disciplinary measures include but not restricted to deducting pocket money, tuck outings, community service in school and outside school, Sunday detention as well as in serious cases suspension and expulsion depending upon the severity of the case. The school works closely with parents and other shareholders in driving this point home. Pupils will learn best in a safe and calm environment that is free from disruption and in which education is the primary focus and school is committed to providing this to every child. If an individual has been spectator to an incident of bullying, he / she is responsible for reporting the same as legally it amounts to abetment of the offence.

Page 43: A SENIOR SECONDARY CO-EDUCATIONAL DAY AND BOARDING SCHOOL (AFFILIATED TO CBSE (AFFILIATED TO CBSE )

PASTORAL CARE The pastoral Life at GTBPS School:

SANCTIONS AND PUNISHMENTS: The GTBPS believes in following an absolute ban on Corporal punishment. The Prefect’s do not have punitive powers rather discipline is enforced through verbal reprimands and counselling. We believe that this method works in long run and Prefects lead by example rather than force and this also acts as a check on ‘formal bullying’. There are various levels of sanctions depending on the intensity and degree of breach of school rules and regulations. Sanctions specifically addressing issues in the classroom or about academic matters are dealt by class teachers and Coordinator through reprimands, a formal note of caution addressed to the Housemasters.. A Disciplinary Committee is in place in school to deal with offences of serious nature. The Committee consists of Pastoral Coordinator, all Housemasters, Head Girl ,Head Boy and House Captains of students under investigation. The Committee recommends punishments to the HM/Principal who is the final authority.
