    Gathering Music

    Welcome & God’s Greeting

Call to Worship (based on Psalm 46)

L: God is our refuge and our strength—a very present help in trouble.P: Therefore we will not fear.

Though the earth should change, We will not fear.

Though the mountains shake in the heart of the sea, We will not fear.

Though the nations are in an uproar and peace is far away, We will not fear.

Though my life is disquieted, I will not fear. God is my refuge and my strength.

God is with you. In love, God holds us. In love, God moves through creation. God is our refuge and strength—our help in trouble. God is the source of life, the hidden order in chaos, the grace that is making all things new. Alleluia! Thanks be to God!

  • Hymn “All Creatures of Our God and King”

    1. All creatures of our God and King,

Lift up your voice and with us sing,

    Alleluia! Alleluia!

O burning sun with golden beam,

and silver moon with softer gleam!

O praise him! O praise him!

    Alleluia! Alleluia! Alleluia!

    2. O rushing wind so wild and strong,

white clouds that sail in heav’n along,

    O praise him! Alleluia!

New rising dawn, in praise rejoice,

You lights of evening, find a voice!

O praise him, O praise him,

    Alleluia! Alleluia! Alleluia!

    3. Earth ever fertile, day by day

bring forth your blessings on our way

    Alleluia! Alleluia!

All flowers and fruits that in you grow,

Let them God’s glory also show:

O praise him, O praise him,

    Alleluia! Alleluia! Alleluia!

    4. All you who are of tender heart,

    Forgiving others, take your part;

    Alleluia! Alleluia!

All you who pain and sorrow bear,

Praise God and freely cast your care:

O praise him, O praise him,

    Alleluia! Alleluia! Alleluia!

    Call to Confession

Jesus says: Come to me all you who are weary and heavy-laden. Take my yoke upon you and learnfrom me. My yoke is easy. My love lightens your burdens. Walk with me and you will find rest for yoursoul.

    Prayer of Confession (responsive)

In the chaos and uncertainty of our lives, we come to you God, Source of Life and Center of Love. We are in trouble. We are in the midst of upheaval. Our brokenness and need are uncovered.

For the times that we unleash and get stuck in destructive chaos, forgive us and renew us in the womb of your love. For the times we refuse to see and respond to the chaos around us, forgive us and strengthen us in the womb of your love. For the times we cling to order and control, resisting change for good,

forgive us and rest us in the womb of your love. When we are afraid and run to other sources of hope, forgive us and nourish us in the womb of your love. When we doubt your love and feel abandoned by you, forgive us and re-birth us from the womb of your love; hold us and walk with us forever.

With and through your Holy Spirit and Beloved Son we pray. Amen.

Sung Response “Spirit of the Living God” (2X)Spirit of the living God, fall afresh on me.Spirit of the living God, fall afresh on me. Melt me, mold me, fill me, use me.Spirit of the living God, fall afresh on me.

  • Words of Assurance (Ps. 46: 10a; Isaiah 43:1b-2)

“Be still, and know that I am God. Do not fear, for I have redeemed you; I have called you by name, you are mine. When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and through the rivers, they shall not overwhelm you; when you walk through fire you shall not be burned, and the flame shall not consume you. Do not fear, for I have redeemed you. I have called you by name. You are mine. I am with you, now and forever.”

Solo “The People Who Walked in Darkness Have Seen a Great Light”from G. F. Handel’s Messiah

God’s Way for Us ¨ Sharing the Peace

As people called to walk in the light of Christ how then shall we live?Let love be genuine; hate what is evil; hold fast to what is good.Rejoice with those who rejoice; weep with those who weep. Welcome the stranger, and live peaceably with all, reflecting the peace that Jesus Christ has given you—a peace that passes all understanding. The peace of Christ be with you. And also with you.

Gloria Patri Glory be to the Father, and to Son, and to the Holy Ghost. As it was in the beginning, is now and ever shall be,

    world without end! Amen. Amen.

    Prayer for Illumination

    Scripture Genesis 18:1-15; Romans 5:1-5

Therefore, since we are justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord JesusChrist, 2 through whom we have obtained access to this grace in which we stand; and we boast in ourhope of sharing the glory of God. 3 And not only that, but we also boast in our sufferings, knowing thatsuffering produces endurance, 4 and endurance produces character, and character produceshope, 5 and hope does not disappoint us, because God’s love has been poured into our hearts throughthe Holy Spirit that has been given to us.

Sermon “If You Wanna Make a Baby, You Gotta Make Love”

Prayer for Blessing on the Word

We Offer Ourselves & Our Gifts
