It is important for you to understand in more detail how the Plan works and which choices are most appropriate for your individual situation. Start by reading the information inside. eLigibiLitY & PartiCiPationWho can participate?YouareeligibletoparticipateinthePlan,ifyouarealayemployee(i.e.,anon-religiousornon-clergyemployee),that hascompleted30daysofservice,attainedage21,isemployedwiththeArchdioceseoraparticipatingArchdiocesanemployerand is either: • regularlyworkingatleast20hoursperweek;or• aboard-certifiedteacherorindividualwithprimaryinstructionalcontrolofaclassroomwhoregularlyworksatleast12classhours(4½hoursfortheAthenaeumofOhio)perweekforanormalworkyear.

When can i participate?EligibleparticipantshiredpriortoJanuary1,2016,canenterthePlanonJanuary1,April1,July1,orOctober1,coincidingwithorfollowingthedateonwhichtheeligibilityrequirementsaremet.EligibleparticipantshiredafterJanuary1,2016,willbeautomaticallyenrolledinthePlanonJanuary1,April1,July1,orOctober1,coincidingwithorfollowingthedateonwhichtheeligibilityrequirementsaremet.
retireMent PLan Contributionshow do i contribute to my retirement account?ForparticipantshiredpriortoJanuary1,2016,anaccountisestablished on your behalf and contributions are made to your accountbyyouandyouremployer.Youdeterminehowmuchtocontribute from each pay. Through payroll deduction, you may contributewholepercentageamountsfrom1%to100%ofyoureligiblepayinpre-taxandRoth401(k)(after-tax)contributions.ForparticipantshiredafterJanuary1,2016,anaccountisestablishedonyourbehalfand4%ofyourcompensationwillbe automatically deducted from your eligible pay each pay periodanddepositedtoyouraccountintheformofpre-taxcontributions. These automatic deductions will begin as soon as administratively feasible after the entry date coinciding or following the satisfaction of eligibility and participation requirements.Withpre-taxcontributions,yourcontributionsaredeductedfromyourpaybeforefederaland,inmostcases,statetaxesarewithdrawn.Yourcontributions,andanyearningsonthosecontributions,growtax-freeuntilyoubeginmakingwithdrawals.Yourwithdrawalsaretaxedasordinaryincome.YoualsohavetheoptiontomakeRoth401(k)(after-tax)contributions.WiththeRoth401(k)option,yourcontributionsaredeductedfromyourpayafterfederalandstatetaxesareapplied.Yourcontributions,andanyearningsonthosecontributions,growtax-free.Youpaynotaxesonyourwithdrawals.Youcancontributethesameamounttoeitherplanoptionordivide your contribution between the two options. The Plan gives you a choice.
how much can i contribute to my account?For2016,contributionstothePlanpercalendaryeararelimitedto$18,000exclusiveofemployercontributions.Ifyouwillbeatleastage50byDecember31,2016,the$18,000limitisincreasedby$6,000asa“catch-upcontribution”toatotalof$24,000.These$18,000and$24,000limitsarefor2016,buttheIRSmayannounceincreasedlimitsforfutureyears.
Can i change my contribution?Youmaychangethetypeandamountyoucontributeorstoporrestartyourcontributionsanytime.ChangescanbemadeviaRetire.53.comorbycallingthetoll-freeParticipantServicesLineat1-866-258-4777.
Can i roll over an account balance from a previous employer’s retirement plan or ira?Ifyoureceiveorareeligibletoreceiveadistributionfromanotherqualifiedretirementplan,oranIRA,youmaybeabletorolloverthedistributiontotheArchdioceseofCincinnati401(k)Plan.ContactyourBenefitAdministratorfordetails.
how does my employer contribute to my account?Youremployerintendstomakeacontributiontoyouraccounteachquarterinanamountequalto4%ofyourquarterlycompensation. This is also referred to as a safe harbor contribution.
vestingWhat does it mean to be vested?Vestingreferstoyourrightofownershiptothemoneyinyouraccount.Yourcontributions,earningsandemployercontributionsarealways100%vested.
