THE SITUATION

Sean Peters, President/CEO of Tech Squared, Inc. (TSI), has made it his mission to provide his clients with services that reduce stress and add value. When he founded TSI in 2000, that meant offering network support services. Over time, however, Sean realized that many of his clients were limited by expensive, obsolete phone systems and services that added no value but generated significant stress and frustration.

In keeping with his mission, Sean expanded TSI’s service offerings to include Hosted PBX and On Premise phone systems, including local, long-distance, international, and E911 services. Initially, TSI chose a well-known hosted open source switch, but Sean soon realized that to reduce call routing costs he would need to access wholesale rates by purchasing his own Softswitch.

Over time, however, it became clear that the purchased Softswitch did not provide TSI’s clients with the kind of service and value the company was known for. The switch had stability and version upgrade issues, and the overseas support team would only provide support through chat. What’s more, the software required the user to be logged in and did not run as a service when the machine was restarted.

Determined to find a better choice for his clients and his company, Sean turned to IPsmarx and its IP-PBX and SIP Trunking solution.

“IPsmarx guided us through the whole process, understood our business model, and built a system that will allow us to provide exactly what our clients need”

Sean Peters, President/CEO of Tech Squared, Inc

THE SOLUTION Right from the start, Sean saw that working with IPsmarx would be different: “While the installation was pretty seamless, configuration was a bit of a challenge. Yet IPsmarx was dedicated to making it work. The IPsmarx team had a great deal of patience with us as they worked to adjust their Softswitch to our relatively new business model. It was easy to communicate with their technical team—in fact, it was a world of difference from the support we were used to.” Along with better service, switching to IPsmarx meant greater capability, flexibility, and reliability, both for TSI and its clients. The IPsmarx IP-PBX and SIP Trunking solution allows TSI to access automatic failover so calls are automatically rolled over to another premise when a site is busy. As Sean notes, “Customers enjoy never having to face a busy tone thanks to SIP Trunking.” The system also includes redundancy and allows TSI to support both IP-based and premised-based PBXs, further broadening the market of potential clients. In particular, Sean reports that multi-location clients are extremely happy with the reliability of the new system and are using it to set up call center-type environments without the enormous expense of most systems. The system’s flexibility and expanded feature set—coupled with knowledgeable and easy-to-access technical support—has made it possible for TSI to profitably enter the market, despite the initial upfront cost. Sean attributes this in part to the fact that “IPsmarx helped me sell the whole package, not only wholesale, not only SIP Trunking, but everything all together.” He continues, “IPsmarx guided us through the whole process, understood our business model, and built a system that will allow us to provide exactly what our clients need” both now and in the future—something that is extremely important to Sean. Over the next five years, TSI plans to expand beyond its current geographic area, offering phone systems coupled with VoIP service backed by IPsmarx to expanded markets. Sean trusts that “IPsmarx is the right company” to help TSI meet both the needs of its clients and its plans for growth.
