Theatre Group The Sound of Music

When a postulant proves too high-spirited for the religious life, she’s dispatched to serve as governess for the seven children of a widowed naval captain. Her growing rapport with the youngsters, coupled with her generosity of spirit, gradually captures the heart of the stern captain, and they marry. The family’s narrow escape over the mountains to Switzerland on the eve of World War II provides one of the most thrilling and inspirational finales ever presented in the theatre. Please sign up and pay at the Welcome Center in the Gathering Place beginning Sunday, November 10. Deadline for signing up is Sunday, December 15.

Advent Calendars are available

for purchase outside the

Book Alcove.

A YARN ABOUT YARN By Patti Olsen - Knit - Crochet Ministry Last May the Knit-Crochet Ministry received a Thrivent Action Team grant to spend on yarn which we planned to use to produce items for local homeless individuals. I happily went shopping and we all started new projects. Thrivent asks that we post information

about our projects on their internet site. Our posting was spotted by another yarn lover and Action Team leader in Casper, Wyoming. Dear Nancy tracked me down by sending a letter to First Lutheran. She offered to send us “some” yarn which she didn’t think she would be using. To date, we have received three large boxes of yarn from her - enough for many items!

That is not the end of the story. Nancy’s friend Amanda in Pennsylvania heard about our group from Nancy and has sent us two huge boxes of yarn. In addition, we have been given donations of yarn from some of our congregational members. It is wonderful to have yarn from diverse sources. Often there is not enough of one color/type to complete a project, but by mixing and matching, we can use it all. One Thrivent grant has been multiplied many times over through the generosity of others.

We are looking for more church members who like to knit and/or crochet. If you cannot get to a Saturday gathering, just contact us and we will get you supplied with yarn and ideas for our many projects. For further information, contact Marcia Foret at 719-632-8836 ext. 6064 or by email: [email protected].

Book Discussion Group

Selection to read: Anne of Green Gables by Lucy Maud Montgomery; the classic coming-of-age tale of Anne Shirley, originally published in 1908. It is a sentimental and charming story we’ve probably all read when we were much, much younger. Set in the fictional Canadian town of Avonlea on Prince Edward Island, this story of a spirited and unconventional little girl will win your heart and make you smile. Book selections for next year to be determined.
