HIMIG BULILIT 4: A City-wide Chorale Competition by FACEPI
SAMSUNG Citizenship Focus
Samsung believes that a company’s success is measured not only by its business achievements, but also by how well it serves its community, protects our planet’s resources and makes a difference in people’s lives.
Samsung embraces its responsibility to contribute as a good citizen, taking action around the world to foster a better society, protect and improve the environment, and strengthen our communities.
Samsung’s citizenship efforts encompass a broad range of areas that touch people’s lives, including social welfare, culture and arts, volunteer services, academics and education, environmental protection, and international exchanges.
FACEPI
The Foundation on Arts, Culture and Education of Parañaque, Inc. (FACEPI) was established in 1999 to promote and preserve Parañaque’s arts and culture. It is mainly composed of active and inactive members of Saint Andrew’s Parish Choir, an institution that has been in existence for the last 39 years.
In recent years FACEPI has focused more heavily on music, particularly in developing love for music among the youth of Parañaque through an annual children’s competition.
FACEPI like SAMSUNG sees the importance of nurturing this tradition of providing a platform for music competition, an activity which is not very common in the local community.
Thus, HIMIG BULILIT Chorale Competition was conceptualized. This annual event has proven to be a potent tool to enhance
love for music, to identify musically talented children early on and to train these children develop this talent.
BACKGROUND The local community looks forward to Himig Bulilit because it also
allows children to acquire discipline, promote unity and teamwork, and to experience preparing for a serious contest.
This activity has become an important avenue for children to learn values and attain a certain level of maturity outside of classroom teaching.
Each year of Himig Bulilit revolved around a theme. Himig Bulilit 1: "Diwa ng Pasko“ Himig Bulilit 2: "Himig Pag-ibig mula sa Bulilits"; Himig Bulilit 3: "Ating Kalikasan ... Ating Kinabukasan".
For each theme, we hoped to imbibe among our youth the values of each circumstance to their being in particular, and society in general.
For Himig Bulilit 4, we have chosen “Nationalism” as an appropriate theme to teach our youth to be proud of their heritage. Thus, we adopted the theme “Pangangalaga sa Kalayaan” for this Himig Bulilit’s episode.
