Letter written in the year 2070. Its importance is:
URGENT!
I hope that when you read it
You won't fall into depression; but send it around, so that all may think about it and
can see how far we have fallen.
from Ria Slides, published in "Crónica de los Tiempos" de abril de 2002.

Yesterday morning, I found a strange envelope under the door. The paper was coarse and grey, as a mixture of paper
and metal. It was not rigid, it didn't have postage stamps, but it was addressed to
me, clearly and correctly. I opened it with curiosity, and the
strange thing was that the letter was written by hand, and in a familiar script. Even more strange was the date and the
content that I now share with you.
LETTER WRITTEN IN THE YEAR 2070

"Crónica de los Tiempos" de abril de 2002.
We are in the year 2070. I have just turned 50 years
old, but I look 85 . I have serious renal
problems because I cannot drink enough water.
I believe that little time
remains for me. Today I am one of the oldest
people in this society.
I remember when I was 5 years old.
There were many trees in the parks, the houses had beautiful gardens and I could enjoy a bath or to be in the
shower for an hour.
Everything was very different.
Now we use towels soaked with mineral oil to clean our skin.
Before, all the women showed off beautiful hair.
Before, my father washed the car with water that came
out of a hose!
Now we, his children, don't believe it that water could
have been used in this way!
Now we must shave our heads in order to keep them clean without using any water.
I remember that there were so many pleas: "Save the water", But nobody paid attention. They never
really thought that one day we would have run out of
water.
Now the few rivers, streams, and lagoons
remaining are irreversibly contaminated. The rest are
gone. dried up.
Gastrointestinal deseases, skin cancers and urological cancers are now the main causes for
death.
The landscapes surrounding us in all directions, consist of
large deserts.
Industry is paralyzed, and the level of unemployment is sky high. The factories doing desalination are the main source of employment and pay with drinkable water instead of a salary.
Being assualted for a bucket of water is common in any isolated road..
Food is now 80% synthetic
Before, they told you that every adult person should drink 8 glasses of water a day.
The most you are allowed to drink today is half a glass!
The clothing is all throwaway--something that has increased the quantity of garbage. We also had to
go back to using cesspits, as in the previous century, because sewers are unusable--no water.
People look horrifyingly awful, decaying bodies, wrinkled from dehydration with skin sores from excessive exposure to ultraviolet rays, since the ozone layer that used to keep
them from our atmosphere is long gone.
Because of all this lack of water, the skin of a 20 year-old girl looks like that of a 40 year-old.
We can’t manufacture water: oxygen is depleted on account of the lack of trees.
Insufficient oxygen has also had the effect of lowering the intellectual coefficient of the
new generations.
Scientists study the situation and seek a
solution, but there is none.
Many mens sperm morphology has changed.
As a result, many children are born with
deficiencies, mutations and deformaties.
Our government makes us pay for the air we breathe.
137 m3 a day is what is required for an adult.
People who are not able to pay have to go to "ventilated zones",
powered with gigantic mechanical bellows
They are not filled with good quality air, but you’re able to breathe.
The average lifespan is now 35 years.
Some Countries have preserved small spots of vegetation, with their respective rivers, and these
are heavily protected by the army.
Water has become a highly valued
treasure, worth much more than gold
or diamonds.
Everywhere else, there are no trees because it almost never rains.
And when rain comes it’s acid rain.
The yearly seasons have changed dramatically because of the atomic
experiments and of polluting industries of the
20th century. You were all warned that you needed to
protect the environment,But nobody wanted to take care.
When my daughter asks me to talk to her about when I was young
I speak to her about the rain, about the flowers, of how beautiful it was to have a bath in a river
and to be able to fish and to drink all the
water that you wanted. And about how healthy
people were.
She asks me:
And then I feel a lump in my throat!
Dad! Why have we run out of water?
I cannot help feeling guilty, because' I belong to the generation that
has destroyed the environment, that didn’t take seriously all those
warning signs.
Now our children have to pay a very
high price.
I sincerely believe that life on the Earth will become impossible in a very short time, because of environmental changes that have become irreversible.
How much I would like to go back and to do it differently, and make humanity understand all this!
.. ... Back to when we still had time to do something to save our Planet .
REACH ALL THOSE YOU KNOW WITH THIS MESSAGE...
as every person who reads it and forwards it will help to create the consciousness necessary to save
our environment and preserve our natural resources. Do this I beg you for the future survival of our
children and our earth.
THIS IS NOT A JOKE.
THIS IS AN URGENT MATTER OF LIFE AND DEATH !!!!!!!
