Cotton Exchange

Built in 1906, the building is full of character and history and was once the centre of the cotton trading world, housing Liverpool’s thriving cotton exchange, with telephones and direct cables going to New York, Bremen and Bombay. There are reminders of the intriguing history to be found throughout, from the cotton emblems on Edmund Street to the granite columns of the trading hall now within some of the office spaces.

The building has been refurbished, creating a brand new stunning reception entrance which opens on to Bixteth Street. The refurbishment has unlocked many of the building’s period features including the restoration of the striking Terrazzo floor which has produced a spectacular, enticing walkway throughout many of the floors. We also removed the suspended ceiling to reveal the original vaulted ceiling and ornamental domes.

Although the building has an abundance of historical character it comes with modern facilities. There are shower rooms and bicycle storage for those wishing to cycle in to work and we’ve recently completed construction of a conference and events facility on the sixth floor.

In addition, Cotton Exchange is one of the best connected office buildings in the UK, being one of the few places where you can order a 100Gbps internet connection if needed.

The end result is an open and inviting new work space in one of the most historic buildings in Liverpool – an inspiring mix of classic design and modern facilities.

Cotton Exchange is based in the heart of the commercial district and is one of Liverpool’s most iconic buildings.

The Old Hall

Taking its name from the nearby street that was once home to the original Neoclassical façade of the Cotton Exchange, The Old Hall offers a unique backdrop for corporate and social events.

Colin Sinclair Director of Property MarketingBruntwood

The Old Hall, Cotton Exchange

“ We have made significant investments in recent years to try and maximise the potential of the Cotton Exchange and the growing demand for unique event venues is a central pillar of our work here.”

For many companies, finding a new work space can seem like a daunting task. Even after they find the perfect place, they’re then often landed with hidden costs and a pile of legal paperwork packed full of jargon.

To counter this, we have developed 20 fully-cabled, characterful self-contained spaces with flexible terms, all-inclusive pricing, no fit-out costs and headache-free paperwork. The development has been undertaken in two phases both with a wide range of room sizes from 129 sq ft upwards. Available from as little as £98 per person per month The Trading Rooms have so far proven to be a popular addition to the Cotton Exchange.

Phase 1 plan

Phase 2 plan

A total of six individual suites have been created, varying in size from 231 sq ft to 655 sq ft, each including plug and play internet connectivity and flexible terms, perfect for start-up and growth businesses in the creative, media and digital sectors.

You can tell as soon as you walk into The Loft that this space is completely different from the rest of the building. Featuring ply wood walls, industrial lighting, astroturf and picnic benches the modern stripped back feel of these spaces have been specifically developed to boost co-working and creativity between the companies occupying the space.

Bringing these businesses together at The Loft we’re creating a cluster of businesses in the heart of the commercial district, a first for Liverpool.

The Trading Rooms The Loft

In early 2014 we developed The Trading Rooms concept at Cotton Exchange in response to a growing need from small or start-up businesses needing work space in Liverpool.

The Loft is a collection of small suites designed specifically to accommodate and support the growth ambitions of young, entrepreneurial businesses.

Paul Stocker PKSD

“ I was the first business to move into The Trading Rooms and it’s been great to see the offices fill up one-by-one. I was previously working from home but now feel part of a thriving business community in a great city with plenty of opportunities to partner with other companies”
