To date, Granab’s patented and type-approved floor joists systems have been installed in more than two mil-lion square metres of floor in residen-tial properties, offices, schools, shops and public buildings.

The Granab Subfloor System is type-approved. It has been tested and certified by the Swedish National Testing and Research Institute (SP) with regard to its sound-damping properties, dynamic loads, strength and resilience. The stable galvanised steel joists are extremely strong and are not affected by moisture or temp-erature fluctuations. Other incorporated components are made of moisture-resis-tant materials. The subfloor system’s in-built impact-damping properties ensure comfortable and silent floors.

A lot of people are looking to reduce their electricity consumption for heating and are switching instead to district hea-ting or another energy source. Uponor Underfloor Heating Systems can be connected to all types of heat source. It is not uncommon for houses under construction or being renovated to be fitted with underfloor heating.

By letting the warmth rise from the floor, heat is distributed evenly throug-hout the room. Optimum comfort is achieved using a room thermostat and individual regulation of all rooms. With warm floors, the room temperature can be reduced a few degrees. This benefits both your wallet and your wellbeing, as the feet are the body’s own thermostat.

Decorate any way you wantOpen up to creative architecture

Being able to choose whichever surface finish you want encourages creative architecture

The combination of a Granab Sub-floor System and Uponor Underfloor Heating System does not simply mean being able to climb out of bed in the morning without the soles of your feet encountering a freezing cold floor.

A silent, warm and comfortable floor also encourages greater freedom when it comes to decorating and furnishing your home.

Underfloor heating allows you to use every square metre of floor surface. And think how easy it will be to paint and wallpaper the walls. No radiators or pipes that collect dust to ruin your decorating dreams. If you want to move the sofa or your favourite armchair under the window, then why not? This form of heating works well no matter how the furniture is arranged.

Quick and easy installationThe customer, installation engineer and builder

all benefit financiallyComplete documentation

Both the Granab Subfloor System and Uponor Underfloor Heating System are well documented. You can down-load product information and instal-lation instructions from our websites, www.granab.se and www.uponor.se.

Two laying options Uponor Underfloor Heating Systems can be combined with the Granab Subfloor System using two different laying methods. You can choose between laying Uponor UFH Chip boards, grooved 17, over the floor joists and using Uponor UFH Cassette 20 with insulation between the floor joists, system 7000.

Uponor UFH Chip board, grooved 17

Grooved UFH Chip board is glued and screwed securely to the joists. Heat emission plates to distribute the heat are laid in the grooves and then underfloor heating pipes are inserted into the plates. Flooring may comprise, for example, 15 mm parquet flooring, which is instal-led on top of plastic film. Follow the floor manufacturer’s instructions carefully.

Uponor UFH Cassette 20 with insulation

Underfloor heating installed in an Uponor UFH Cassette 20 with insulation that is laid along the floor joists. The cassettes rest on Uponor Cassett support. The standard distance between joists is c/c 600 mm. The flooring may be, for example, 22 mm. Follow the floor manufacturer’s instructions carefully.

Uponor UFH Cassette 20 withinsulation

Plastic matting may also be laid over the underfloor heating. First lay flooring chipboard across the floor joists and then lay the plastic matting over that. Another alternative may be to apply floor plaster over the particle board and then lay tiles in the plaster. Follow the floor manufacturer’s instructions carefully.

8 Granab Subfloor System and Uponor Underfloor Heating System

Uponor UFH Chip board, grooved 17 Procedure for installation

First the surfaces where the underfloor heating and subfloor systems are to be installed must be cleaned and made accessible.

The manifold cabinet should be positio-ned as shown in the drawing.

Install the feed lines from the heat source to the underfloor heating manifold. The supply line is fitted to the upper mani-fold and the return line to the lower one. Each manifold is equipped with an balancing valve.

The feed lines must be secured suf-ficiently.

Any excess adhesive should be wiped away, with particular attention being paid to grooves where underfloor heating plates or pipes will be fitted later.

Holes (diameter approx. 65 mm) must be drilled in the Uponor UFH Chip board for the underfloor heating pipes, supply lines. It may be helpful to cut an extra hole in line with the first in order to facilitate the use of rising pipes. The position of the hole is shown in the underfloor heating drawing. It should be positioned where the loop field starts or ends.

The protective pipe is secured to the underlying surface using pipe clips

Electrical wiring and pipes are drawn flexibly under the finished floor

The underfloor heating pipes are drawn through conduit pipes to every room with underfloor heating

Install conduit pipe from the manifold cabinet to each loop and connection point. “Connection point” means the place where the underfloor heating pipe is to come up through the Uponor UFH Chip board, grooved 17 (see underfloor heating drawing).

The subfloor system should now be installed according to Granab’s instal-lation instructions.

If the walls are to be plastered, make sure that the gypsum board beneath the mani-fold cabinet does not reach right down to the basefloor. The board must stop level with the upper edge of the Granab floor joist.

Fit the Uponor UFH Chip board over the subfloor system, following Granab’s installation instructions for flooring chipboard. The short sides can be joined as you go along without the joint having to be supported by a floor joist. All joints must be glued in accordance with the instructions.

Secure the conduit pipes as required, with a distance of max 600 mm between the clips. The last clamping ring before the connection point must be no closer than 600 mm. The conduit pipe must stop approx. 150 mm above the finished floor.

Make sure that pipes passing through the chipboard have a soft bend so that the pipe will not press against the parquet or floor surface that will be laid over the Uponor UFH Chip board.

Page 9: A subfloor system and an underfloor heating system ...granab.se/oldsite/engelsk/download/granab_floorheat.pdf · underfloor heating. Efficient installation reduces the build time

Granab Subfloor System and Uponor Underfloor Heating System 9

The turning grooves for the underfloor heating pipes must be milled as close to the opposite wall as possible. Check also that the depth of the groove is sufficient. Normally, the depth of the groove cor-responds to the maximum depth of the Uponor Milling Machine.

After vacuuming, the floor surface must be covered with Uponor Heat emission plates. All straight grooves are equipped with plates. The distance between the plates must be 10-100 mm lengthwise.

The underfloor heating pipes can then be installed. Remember to connect the supply and return lines to the correct part of the underfloor heating manifold. Check also that the pipes do not come up and away from the Uponor UFH Chip boards.

All underfloor heating loops must be marked at the underfloor heating manifold in accordance with Uponor’s underfloor heating drawing with room designation and/or loop number.

Before the floor is covered, the under-floor heating system must be tested for tightness in accordance with Uponor’s instructions.

This testing must also be documented in a separate document.

Uponor UFH Chip board, grooved 17Installation over floor joists

The protective pipes containing the underfloor heating pipes are drawn up and connected to the underfloor heating manifold

Once all the loops have been filled and tested for tightness, each underfloor heating loop can be balanced in accor-dance with Uponor’s underfloor heating calculation

It is important that the floor surface layer or protective flooring be fitted as soon as possible after the system has been tested for tightness.

NB! The Uponor UFH Chip board is not intended for use as a working floor.

Follow Granab’s instructions for instal-ling a floor surface layer.

Once installation is complete, install and function test room regulation.

Before installing underfloor heating plates the floor surface must be vacuum-cleaned carefully.

10 Granab Subfloor System and Uponor Underfloor Heating System

Work begins with the surfaces where the underfloor heating and subfloor systems are to be installed being cleaned and made accessible.

Then install the manifold cabinet with the manifold positioned as shown in the drawing.

Install the feed lines from the heat source to the underfloor heating manifold. The supply line is fitted to the upper mani-fold and the return line to the lower one. Each manifold is equipped with an balancing valve.

The feed lines must be secured sufficiently. Max 800 mm distance between clips.

Install conduit pipe from the manifold cabinet to each loop and connection point. “Connection point” means the place where the underfloor heating pipe is to come up near the Uponor UFH Cassette (see underfloor heating drawing).

Secure the conduit pipes as required, though with a distance of max 600 mm between the clips. The last clamping ring before the connection point must be at least 600 mm away. The conduit pipe must stop approx. 150 mm above the finished floor.

The subfloor system 7000 should now be installed according to Granab’s instal-lation instructions

Uponor UFH Cassette 20 with insulationProcedure for installation

For smaller cross bar compartments, cut fixing plates and underfloor heating cassettes to fit

The underfloor heating cassettes are laid on top of the cassette support

For passage between the subfloor bays there must be a gap of approx. 50 mm between the longitudinal and the trans-verse joist.

Cover the floor surface with Uponor UFH cassettes. The distance between the cassettes must be 10-100 mm lengt-hwise. The cassette stops 300 mm from the transverse floor joist.

Vacuum-clean the Uponor UFH Cas-settes, particularly in the grooves, before beginning to lay the underfloor heating pipes.

Install the underfloor heating pipes in accordance with the underfloor heating drawing produced and connect them to the installed underfloor heating manifold.

If a joist intervall has a c-distance less than 600 mm, the fixing plates should be split and laid as overlapping. Both ends should be fastened together using pop rivets, tape or equivalent.

If the walls are to be plastered, make sure that the gypsum board beneath the manifold cabinet does not reach right down to the floor. The board must stop level with the upper edge of the Granab floor joist.

Once the subfloor system has been instal-led, installation of the underfloor heating cassettes can begin.

In between the joists of the subfloor system, fixing plates for the UFH casset-tes are fitted using the holes beside the joists. Three fixing plates must be fitted for each cassette.

Granab Subfloor System and Uponor Underfloor Heating System 11

Uponor UFH Cassette 20 with insulationInstallation between floor joists

Follow Granab’s instructions for instal-ling a floor surface layer.

Once installation is complete, install and function test room regulation.

All underfloor heating loops must be marked at the underfloor heating manifold in accordance with Uponor’s underfloor heating drawing with loop number and/or room designation.

Before the floor is covered, the under-floor heating system must be tested for tightness in accordance with Uponor’s instructions. This testing must also be documented in a separate document.

Once all the loops have been filled and tested for leaks, each underfloor heating loop can be adjusted in accordance with Uponor’s underfloor heating calculation

It is important that the floor surface layer or protective flooring be installed as soon as possible after the system has been tested for tightness.

NB! The underfloor heating cassettes are not intended for use as a working floorA finished underfloor heating system must

be tightness tested before the surface layer is installed

An underfloor heating system allows almost complete freedom when it comes to furnishing

Remember to connect the supply and return lines to the correct part of the underfloor heating manifold. Check also that the pipes are not coming loose and touching parts of the joists.

Rising pipes must have a soft bend so that they do not press against the parquet or flooring particle board that will be laid over the joist floor.
