    The City of University City, in partnership withWashington University, the Parkview Gardens

    Association, Great Rivers Greenway, Trailnet,

    RHCDA, developed a grant proposal entitled

    Parkview Gardens: A Sustainable &Accessible Community for a HUD-DOTPartnership for Sustainable Communitiesgrant. On October 20, 2010, University City

    was notified of their receipt of the grant award.

    A sustainable community is a community that has more housingand transportation choices, is closer to jobs, shops or schools, ismore energy independent and helps protect clean air and water

    The grant application and this planning process

    is one ofthe early-action implementationitems specified in the Parkview GardensParks and Open Space Plan, adopted by theUniversity City, City Council on February 22,

    The overall objective is to continue to revitalize

    and redevelopment Parkview Gardens

    neighborhood in a manner that builds upon

    its history, diversity and charactersothat new housing, parks and public spaces,

    green infrastructure, and economic

    development projects complement existing andplanned public transportation resources to

    increase community & environmental

    sustainability and improves the quality

    of l ife and access to employmentopportunities.

    The intent is that this plan is implemented over

    the long-term (15-20 years) in a manner thatdoes not require the use of eminent domain.
