– Spends 2-24 hours per day playing games– Skyrim, Halo 4, Mass Effect 3, Call of Duty: Black Ops II, etc.– Some programming– Career goal is to develop games

• Mom (or dad):– Returning student after 20+ years– No college degree– 3 kids, last one just entered middle school– Most recently worked at JC Penny, part time, for $10/hour– Facebook (Farmville)– Scared to death to go back to college

What are their Challenges?• Lindsey (the casual user)

– Procrastinates on homework– Doesn’t practice writing code very much– Doesn’t realize how “difficult” programming can be (although it is do-able for her)

• Mason (the geek)– Way over confident– Thinks he knows more than the GSA– Blows off lab or class– Blurts out random sarcastic comments in class – Doesn’t take the opportunity to learn the details– Frequently learns the least of all students

• Craig (the gamer)– Misses class or lab way too much– Procrastination on homework, projects

• Mom (or dad)

• Thou shalt practice, practice, practice; coding is a skill, afterall.

• Thou shalt compile, execute and modify all programs presented in class.
