SEASONAL TURNING POINTS

W.D. Gann taught that markets tended to reverse near the equinoxes and the solstice points. These phenomena occur on 4 days per year. An equinox occurs twice a year, when the tilt of the Earth's axis is inclined neither away from nor towards the Sun, the center of the Sun being in the same plane as the Earth's equator. The term equinox can also be used in a broader sense, meaning the date when such a passage happens. An equinox happens each year at two specific moments in time (rather than two whole days), when there is a location on the Earth's equator, where the center of the Sun can be observed to be vertically overhead, occurring around March 20 or 21 and September 22 or 23 each year. A solstice is an astronomical event that happens twice each year when the Sun's apparent position in the sky, as viewed from Earth, reaches its northernmost or southernmost extremes. The name is derived from the Latin sol (sun) and sistere (to stand still), because at the solstices, the Sun stands still in declination; that is, the apparent movement of the Sun's path north or south comes to a stop before reversing direction. The term solstice can also be used in a broader sense, as the day when this occurs. The solstices, together with the equinoxes, are connected with the seasons. In some cultures they are considered to start or separate the seasons, while in others they fall nearer the middle. The winter solstice occurs on December 20 or 21. The summer solstice occurs on June 20 or 21. Undoubtedly, some major occurrences in the markets have fallen on these dates. The British pound was devalued on September 21, 1931. On September 20, 1992, the Maastricht European Exchange Rate Treaty was signed, the pound collapsing within a few days. On September 1, 1869, Jay Gould’s attempted gold corner collapsed, the metal price hit a high on this day leading to a panic. A study of financial history will turn up many more such significant events. However, the effect of these phenomena on the markets has not been quantified, as far as I am aware. In order to measure the effect, I began to design software in the late 1970s. The purpose of this article is to measure the effect of the seasonal turning points on the stock and the bond markets. The graphs below depict the percentage change in price for the 30 days before and after these dates. The zero mark on the horizontal axis denotes the exact days of the event. The lines represent the average percentage change in the selected market. So, a reading of 0.5% at the second 10-day mark represents a change of one-half percent from the day of the solstice or equinox to the 10th day after. I have summarized the best trading periods above the graphs. The Stock Market The daily data for the DJIA from 1885 was analyzed. The first graph shows the percentage price fluctuations around the Sun’s passage over 0 Aries on March 20 or 21. From the 13th to the 20th, the DJIA has risen in 76 of 127 years, 59.8% of the time.

The Spring Equinox (0 Aries)

The solstice on June 20-21 typically occurs near lows. Note that:

From June 12 to 26, the DJIA has fallen in 74 of 127 years (58.3%)

From June 27 to July 18, the DJIA has risen in 83 of 126 years (65.9%).

The Summer Solstice (0 Cancer)

The autumn equinox falls on September 20 or 21. From September 7 to 28, the Dow fell in 74 of 126 cases (58.7%).

The Autumn Equinox (0 Libra)

The winter solstice falls on December 20 or 21. This is seasonally the strongest time of the year for stocks, so we expect to see bullish numbers. From the 22nd to the 8th of January, the market has risen in 100 of 126 years (79.4%). This is the highest of all the percentages. The Winter Solstice (0 Capricorn)

Effect on the Bond Market For this analysis, the continuous contract price for the US 10-year note was used from 1979 to the present. In the spring:

From March 16 to 30, the bonds market has fallen in 24 of 29 years (82.8%). This is the most bearish indication for the fixed-income market.

The Spring Equinox (0 Aries)

The month of June is the annual low point for the 10-year note. So these results are not surprising:

From June 15 to 25, prices have fallen in 23 of 30 years (76.6%).

From June 25 to July 16, prices have risen in 23 of 30 years (76.6%). The Summer Solstice (0 Cancer)

The effect in the autumn is similar to that of the effect in June:

From September 18 to 23, the market has fallen in 23 of 29 years (79.3%)

From September 23 to October 8, bonds have risen in 20 of 29 instances (69.0%). Note that the average low is right on the day of the autumn equinox.

The Autumn Equinox (0 Libra)

Note below that the peak is only days short of the solstice.

From November 29 to December 20, bonds have risen in 19 of 29 years (65.5%).

From December 20 to January 4, the market has fallen in 21 of 29 years (72.4%) The Winter Solstice (0 Capricorn)

Some of these tendencies are strong. Utilizing proper technical tools should enable the trader to boost these results to higher numbers. According to Market Watch on August 8th: “Let the record show that, by Hulbert Financial Digest count, the top performer for 2011 to date was Bill Meridian’s Cycles Research, up 19.3% vs. 3.51% annualized for the total return Wilshire 5000. “

Panic, a Cyclical Phenomenon By Irma Schogt

The host of negative news coming form the world‟s financial markets seemed

unstoppable in early August. Nothing was left of the dream of a „summer time rally‟.

For those who follow the daily news for clues, it is hard to find any bright spots. In

situations as these only an “out of the box” view and approach may offer some clarity.

Market crash cycle

With this I refer to the market crash cycle that is described in the book ‘De financiële crisis’ by Dr. Karen

Hamaker-Zondag. This cycle was present from 1873-1877 and now again from 2008-2015. The “Panic of

1873” occurred after years of over speculation in real estate and railways, fed by the banks that lend money

all too generously. In the years before new buildings sprung up from the ground and willingness to purchase

was unprecedented. The world money market was stimulated with financial products that were fully

understood by only a few. But no one seemed to care because „the economy is good‟. Does this sound

familiar to you? It‟s almost a copy of the world before 2008. In 2008, as a result of opaque trash products,

the first big bank fell, Lehman Brothers. The current crisis has resulted from it.

The correlating factor

The similarity is a once per 126 years angle aspect occurring between the slower planets Uranus (riots and

renewal) and Pluto (dwarf planet according to scientists since 2009; astrologically symbol for debt, crisis

and transformation). Since ages, even as long as it is existing the financial world and economy experience a

crisis every time these two planets are at a 90 degrees distance on the zodiac. How to explain this

coincidence is something that modern science is getting more and more insight of. That it is as it is, is

noticed by (financial) astrologers who use this as an extra instrument in their market analysis.

Mood change ahead

In the August edition of the Market Timing Digest, mouthpiece of the worldwide platform of financial

astrology, it is written that the greatest pressure and tension this month could continue until 11 August.

According to astrology, it will be followed by a “wave of more optimistic/encouraging moods” late August –

early September. Will this chance of optimism really get a chance this month? Well, we have done extra

research and this shows that the normal seasonal pattern (in US indices 1920-2010, source

seasonaltrader.com) is an indication of a rise from mid August – early September. So, this surely is a

possibility.

Pluto entered Capricorn January 2008. His mission: Reorganization of Capitalism. September 9, 2008 he moved to direct

motion and whacked the markets. The Dow plunged 2900 points. His next direct motion occurred Sept 11, 2009 and the

Dow moved down 200 points. Then in 2010 Pluto turned direct on Sept 13 and the Dow continued to move up slowly. If

you search back through the Dow averages, you will find Pluto direct stations send the markets down about 70% of the

time.

When the Modern planets (Uranus, Neptune, Pluto) are in the early degrees of a new sign they insist on a paradigm shift

in world economies. Pluto's mission is to destroy the stalwart institutions of the old economy and then design innovative

replacements.

Pluto turned direct at four degrees Capricorn September 16,2011. He continues to whack the banking establishment. He

Journey of Jupiter During 2011-12 and World Economy

While analyzing astrologically the trends of economy at a particular stage of time, the role of Jupiter is the central. The western, as well as the Indian astrology, concur on the said principle. In view of this, the passage of Jupiter through a sign of the zodiac relevant for a period of enquiry would require to be given a closer in-depth look. In addition, the sign of the zodiac through which Jupiter may be passing during the period of inquiry, and the planet owning such sign would also come into focus. Before proceeding to apply the aforesaid astrological principles to the passage of Jupiter during 2011-12, an important principle followed in Indian astrology relating to the movement of planets and the rising of ascendant may be brought out here to avoid confusion among the readers following the western system of astrology. In Vedic astrology, which is synonymous with Indian astrology or Hindu astrology, sidereal zodiac is followed. The effect of following the sidereal zodiac is that if during the year 2011, about 23 degrees and 40 minutes are deducted from the position of planets and the ascendant obtaining at a particular time having reckoned as per the western system, corresponding position of planets and the ascendant, as per Indian system, would be deemed to have become available. Such deduction continues to increase at the rate of a few seconds a year. As said, the cumulative deduction relevant for the year 2011 is about 23 degrees and 40 minutes. The position of planets and the rising of ascendant in standard ephemeris in India is ordinarily given after deducting the said factor. The same is the case in the case of the present article. Jupiter would enter the sign Aries of the sidereal zodiac on 8th May, 2011 and exits on 16th May, 2012. It is obvious that three factors about Jupiter's entry into a sign specified earlier would come into play on the trends of economy of the world. In other words, the planet Jupiter, the sign Aries in which Jupiter would be placed and the owner of sign Aries, and Mars will cast their respective separate influences on the trends of economy during 2011-12. There is fourth factor which ordinarily cannot be ignored. Eclipses would add to the worry if they occur during the period otherwise vulnerable to stress due to the adverse effect of one or more of the nine planets. Thus, for purpose of ascertaining the trends of economy during 2011-12, the following are required to be looked into astrologically:- (1) Planetary influences centering on sign Aries. (2) Passage of Jupiter through sign Aries and its significance on the aspect of economy (3) Passage of Mars through different signs of the zodiac for the period during which Jupiter remains in sign Aries. (4) Eclipses occurring during 2011-12 after 8th May, 2011. Now, influences on account of these four factors are explained and evaluated hereinafter. (1) Planetary influences centering on sign Aries of the sidereal zodiac and its significance on world economy. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- According to Indian astrology, planets passing through signs Aries, Taurus, Gemini, Cancer, Sagittarius and Capricorn generally become effective during second half of their passage. Further, after entry into a sign, Jupiter takes about three to four months to be effective. Therefore, going by these two principles of Indian astrology, Jupiter may not be effective in sign Aries until about September, 2011. There are a couple of more factors seeking to adversely affect the sign Aries. Rahu is known as the ascending node of the Moon or Dragon's head. Ketu is known as the descending node of the Moon or Dragon's tail. It may be noted that Rahu and Ketu are always in retrograde motion and remain at a constant distance of 180 degrees from one another. Both Rahu and Ketu are nothing but sensitive shadow points along the path of the Moon. But astrologically, their significance on national as well as individual affairs is tremendous. So much so that these shadow planets have been understood to be relating to pre-determined destiny wherein the role of free will is almost non-existents. In other worlds, indications of these two shadow planets must happen without fail. The western astrologers do not recognize the role of Rahu and Ketu; though of late some have started taking these into

account. For purpose of the present article, it is an astronomical fact that Rahu would enter the sign Scorpio on 8th June of the current year. Since Rahu stays in a sign for one and a half years, it is obvious that almost the entire passage of Jupiter through the sign Aries would be accompanied by Rahu's passage through Scorpio. Students of astrology are aware that both the signs Aries and Scorpio are owned by Mars. As per Indian astrology, the Rahu and Ketu also exert their influence on the other sign of the planet in whose signs these shadow planets are passing for the time being. Applying this principle to the instant case, while passing through the sign Scorpio, Rahu would influence the other sign Aries also. In substance, sign Aries will be under the adverse influence of Rahu. Apart from Rahu, Saturn would enter the sign Libra in November, 2011 and cast it’s 7th house aspect on sign Aries and Jupiter therein. As Aries is the sign of depression for Saturn, Saturn would depress Aries and Jupiter therein as well. In substance, sign Aries will have adverse influence of both Rahu and Saturn. (2) Passage of Jupiter through sign Aries and it’s significance on the aspect of economy ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- As said earlier, Jupiter would be passing through sign Aries from 8th May, 2011 to 16th May, 2012. Since Aries is a friendly sign for Jupiter, this is a plus factor for Jupiter to show positive effects in the area of economy. But such healthy effects would be conditioned by passage of Mars, the owner of sign Aries through different signs of the zodiac plus adverse effects of Rahu and Saturn. Further, as said earlier, Jupiter does not get effective for some months after its entry into a sign. Therefore, the story is that until Jupiter becomes effective by about September or October, 2011, it would be under adverse control of Rahu from 8th June, 2011 onwards. By the time Jupiter comes to the zone of being effective, there is an addition of adverse influence, in that the adverse aspect of Saturn on Jupiter from November, 2011 onwards. Thus, but for adverse influences from Rahu initially, and combined with adverse influences of Rahu and Saturn, Jupiter would have helped the world economy to look up. But there is still more. The passage of Mars through different signs of zodiac would tell the final story. (3) Passage of Mars through the zodiac for the period from 8th May, 2011 to 16th May, 2012 when Jupiter remains in sign Aries owned by Mars. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ The normal motion of Mars through a sign of the zodaic is about one and a half months. Therefore, the passage of Mars through different signs may be noted hereunder:- (a) 4th May, 2011 to 12th June, 2011Mars stays in sign Aries. (b) 13th June, 2011 to 25th July, 2011Mars remains in sign Taurus (c) 26th July, 2011 to 9th September, 2011Mars stays in sign Gemini (d) 10th September, 2011 to 30 October, 2011Mars stays in sign Cancer. (e) 31st October, 2011 to 21st June, 2012Mars stays in sign Leo The signs Taurus, Gemini and Cancer do not allow Mars to do any better. Rather these signs depress Mars. In regards to the sign Leo, while it is a friendly sign for Mars, Mars would still be in 10th position from Rahu. Rahu would not only adversely influence Jupiter in Aries, it would also afflict Mars. As said earlier, since sign Aries shows results in the later half for the planets passing through it, and Jupiter takes some months to be effective after its entry into a sign, Rahu would dominate the show. Even when Jupiter reaches the zone of effectiveness around September, 2011, Rahu would afflict both Jupiter and Mars. Thus, there is no escape from the adverse effect of Rahu on the economy during the Jupiter's stay in Aries. (4) Eclipses occurring during 2011 There will occur four solar eclipses and two lunar eclipses during year 2011. Of these six eclipses, three will occur in a period of one month from 1st June, 2011 as under:- (a) Partial Solar Eclipse June 1st, 2011 (b) Total Lunar Eclipse June 15th, 2011 (c) Partial Solar Eclipse July 1st, 2011 The occurrence of eclipses is an astronomical phenomenon. But in astrology these are understood to be adding to or accelerating the adverse indications suggested, if any, by the nine planets around three months prior or after such occurrence. Further, occurrence of these eclipses in a period of one month only makes the impact stronger. Since the indications around the period of occurrence of eclipses for the economy are not happy, the eclipses could add to the worry.

Conclusion: The economy for the world during 8-5-2011 to 16-5-2012 does not paint a happy picture. Such countries that are predominantly dependent upon other nations for energy resources, war material and agricultural products appear to be in far deeper worry. Wars among nations, internal strife, lack of necessary effective strategy, less production of essential items of food, natural disasters like earthquakes, may be some reasons responsible for the worry. Since signs under affliction of Rahu would be primarily watery and planet Mars, devastating floods and outbreak of big power dams may result into the weakening of economy, especially in some of Asian countries during 15th September to 6th October, 2011 when Mars would pass through its sign of depression, Cancer of sidereal zodiac. If a nation is still lucky to have a normal economic health, it would be due to its sound effective strategies in the economic sector in the immediate past or due to it’s inherent strength of economy. Nations who would evolve a strategy to reduce their dependence on outside energy resources, or war materials, and also strike some conciliatory posture with nations with whom they have territorial or commercial revelry, and may be able to resist, to an extent, the hand of the adverse planetary influences on economy during the period from 8-5-2011 to 16-5-2012. In view of occurrence of three eclipses within a month’s period from 1st June to 1st July, 2011, it can be said that the impact of adverse influences could start three months prior in view of the principle mentioned earlier in this article. Gold and Silver Outlook for 4th Quarter 2011

Gold has made an impressive run during the summer after completing a bottom at 1480 on June 30th. The

bottom and trend change was timed by the Sun square Saturn aspect, the new moon, and Mercury’s ingress

into the sign of Leo on July 1st and over the weekend of July 2nd. (See Chart example #1). The rally took the

price up to high at about 1921 on September 6th. This represents a 441 dollar run higher in a little over two

months. The September 6th top and change in trend back down was timed when Venus was square the Nodes

of the Moon and crossing a critical reversal degree at 19 Virgo. (Please refer to Jeanne Long’s Universal Clock

for more information on these critical degrees of the zodiac).

Gold appears to have completed a final capitulation low on September 26th at 1533. This represents a 388

move lower since the September 6th top. Adding fuel to the fire to trigger more selling and almost a 200 pt.

move lower on September 23rd, 24th, and 25th, was the CME hike in margin requirements. The Shanghai Gold

exchange followed their lead and did the same over the weekend of September 24th. If this isn’t pure,

unadulterated price manipulation, I don’t know what is!

These key astrological dates, information you can get readily in the “aspects research” function of Galactic

Trader, can alert you in advance when to expect these significant potential trend changes during the month.

The low on September 26th has concurred with the Sun and Mercury crossing the equator and entering Libra

and forming an opposition to Uranus. The planetary price model I am presenting using for effective support

and resistance shows the Sun/Mercury 1st harmonic planetary lines at 36 price increments. Notice how these

lines proved to be effective support for the June 30th low, August 25th low, September 6th top, and most

recently the September 26th low. I would like to see gold break through the 1700 level once again, (August 25th

low), to regain its upward momentum and for more confirmation that a bottom has completed at 1533.

Switching gears, I have another chart in a different time frame, a weekly chart, for Silver. (See chart example

#2). For those “Fibonacci freaks” out there, I have added a simple Fibonacci retracement tool that suggests a

bottom may just completed in the silver market on the same astrological turn period based on the Sun and

Mercury’s opposition to Uranus at the September 26th low.

Corrections often occur in three wave patterns. An “A” wave down, followed by a “B” wave up, then a final “C”

wave down to complete the correction. The low in Silver on Sept. 26th appears to be a final corrective low at

the 61.8 Fibonacci retracement of the January, 2010 low at 10.61 to the April, 2011 high at 49.53. If this is the

case, the September 26th low should stick above the 61.8 retracement point at about $26.00. If the correction

has finally completed in this current uptrend, this implies that the biggest move higher in Silver is yet to come!

This will take price above the April, 2011 top and break through the $50 resistance area. I would like to see

silver break above the 33 – 34 where the bottom was at the end of June for more confirmation of a change in

trend higher.

As we move into the 4th quarter of 2011, here are some of the strongest astrological dates, usually within a

couple trading days, to watch for turning points or trend changes in the gold and silver market. Watch October

13th when the Sun conjuncts Saturn and Mercury enters Scorpio, and on October 28th which is likely to be the

strongest one of the month. This is when Jupiter trines Pluto for the second time as the Sun sextiles Pluto and

opposes Jupiter.

On November 2nd and November 3rd, Mercury and Venus change signs on the same day and enter Sagittarius

and trine Uranus in Aries. This favorable Mercury, Venus trine Uranus aspect concurs with the important G20

meeting in Cannes to sort out the banking crisis in Europe. These planetary aspects in combination with the

favorable Jupiter/Pluto cycle could lead to another very massive stimulus in Europe to keep things afloat. If

this is the case, it will be another bullish influence in both the stock and commodity markets.

The next key date is on November 9th and 10th when Neptune turns direct ending its retrograde cycle and

Mars enters Virgo on the Full Moon. Another Solar Eclipse occurs on November 24th and Venus squares

Uranus and trines Jupiter over the weekend of Nov. 26th and 27th. This will probably bring another strong

turning point on Monday, November 28th.

In December, the Sun conjuncts Mercury on December 4th as Venus trines Mars on December 5th. This is the

next key date. The planet Uranus then turns direct ending its retrograde cycle on December 9th the day before

the lunar eclipse on Dec. 10th. Watch out for increased volatility on this date and the following Monday,

December 12th for another turning point. On December 21st is the Winter Solstice as the Sun enters Capricorn,

but the Sun squares Uranus and trines Jupiter, the following day on the 22nd. December 22nd is another big

date of the month.

These are likely to be the most important key dates during the 4th quarter to watch carefully for trend changes

and/or tops or bottoms to unfold, or potential break outs if price is consolidating or in a trading range.

So how high could the metals go? I believe Gold beyond $2000 is a foregone conclusion with the currency

crisis and currency wars going on in the world for at least a few more years if not longer. I believe Silver over

$100 will come to pass in the not too distant future as it remains grossly undervalued relative to Gold.

As Uranus crosses the 0 Aries point in November, December, and January, the price harmonics at multiples of

360 + 90 pt. price increments for Gold and 36 + 9 pt. increments for Silver are likely to be strong during these

months.

These are the key numbers for support and resistance for Gold: 1710, 1800, 1890, 1980, 2070, 2160, 2250,

2340, etc.

For Silver these are the key numbers: 36, 45, 54, 63, 72, etc.
