PREFACE

Sara Louise Stewart, the daughter of John Washington Stewart and Sarah C.Wetherington, lived at 75 Craven Street in New Bern, NC and never married.After the death of her parents, she shared the large home with her sister, JanePlacid Stewart. After the death of Jane Stewart, the home was demolished in the1960s to make room for the City Hall parking lot on the corner of Craven andPollock Street.

John Washington Stewart was a very successful entrepreneur in New Bern, NC.He purchased the home on 75 Craven Street from Dr. F. W. Hughes.

The bible of Sara Louise Stewart is a copy of Wilmore’s New Analytical ReferenceBible, published by J. A. Wilmore of New York in 1900. The entries and otherloose papers appear to be from the 1920s-40s.

The bible is in the possession of Tom Faulkenberry of New Bern, NC, as part ofhis holdings of the estate of Jane Placid Stewart, Sara’s sister.
