A unique, one day event for building professionals (CPD points may be eligible – located beside the SelfBuild & Improve Your Home Show) Citywest Conference Centre - 12 September 2014 - 9.30am to 5.00pm Programme As the construction industry in Ireland gets up off its knees, where will you be…out in front or left behind? This one day event is an ‘eye opener’. An unrivalled source of information for everyone in the construction industry. Innovative and new ways to build can bring new opportunities. Retrofit and energy innovation is a new opportunity for many whilst BIM is overtaking traditional information systems and revolutionising how projects are executed. Event Highlights Workshops: The day is packed with 45 minute workshops - see the programme below – delivered by leading construction industry experts. Industry and Technology experts will ‘tell it as it is’. Inspiring and informing – showing the way to future trends and growth as well as the practical aspects to implementation. BIM Theatre The future of architecture and the construction industry is digital and BIM technology presents a great opportunity for all participants. It requires changes to the definition of traditional architectural phases, more data sharing than architects and engineers are used to, and a willingness to embrace partnering in an approach that collects all project related information digitally. Building Information Management can result in; • Substantial savings, in both time and money • Increased understanding and predictability – offering greater certainty and reduced risk • Less waste • Better value & quality • Better buildings throughout their life-cycle BIM is also completely scalable – it works just as well for simple small domestic projects as for large and sophisticated commercial ventures. Find out how you can use BIM in these series of talks. Talk 1: BIM Explained – How BIM data can be used to illustrate the entire building life-cycle, from cradle to grave, from inception and design to demolition and materials reuse. Examples of both small and large projects. Talk 2: BIM in Action – Covering geometry, spatial relationships, light analysis, geographic information, quantities and properties of building components, project management and post-construction facilities management. Talk 3: BIM Links All – Highlighting how systems, components, assemblies and sequences can be shown in relative scale to each other and, in turn, relative to the entire project and how different construction professionals can make use of it. Innovation Theatre A large number of Ireland’s buildings are old and inefficient. We face a huge challenge when trying to bring them up to current Irish standards. This series of talks in the Innovation Theatre will look at real life projects and focus on how to achieve the standards with particular focus on innovative solutions to tricky scenarios and lots of case studies. Talk 1: Retro-fitting to achieve modern Energy Performance Standards: Delivered by Art McCormac of Mosart and the Passive House Academy Ireland, Art will describe what the current Irish Standards are and how they apply to retrofitting. Illustrated throughout with case studies there will also be examples of leading high performance projects. Talk 2: Renewables – The Myths and The Facts: Meeting the new Building Regulations requires more than just the installation of renewable systems in an existing building. This talk will look at how you should approach a retro fit as well as delve into the real investment costs of a range of renewables against the actual returns – a real eye opener! Talk 3: Intelligent Solutions: With a particular focus on air tightness and energy loss this talk explores innovative solutions to some of the trickiest scenarios that construction professionals will face in a retrofit. A trouble shooting master class! DUBLIN 2014 www.innovationinbuilding.com
