Desire to bring other disciplines into the rental program.

Instructor has expressed interest in putting book in the rental program. Do this only if it works for you.

Our next additions with faculty OK were BIO, BUS, HIS, MTH, PSY.

Rental due by final date and hour of buyback as noted on the rental agreement.

At IVCC, Buyback money comes from wholesaler, monies used to return rental deposits comes from the college.

Two separate stations need to be set up to keep these monies separate.

10

If rental books are not returned, student account is charged replacement cost = new retail + $10 restocking fee - $28 rental fee.

Deposit is forfeited.

Stacks were closed once rental program started. We were able to do this with minimal remodel.

We only allow an additional 4 to 5 books per semester or the work becomes too much for the staff to handle: 3FT,1PT,4 students.

Books are stickered on cover, spine and with system specific barcode. Examples attached.

12

Post cards sent to all rental students. Example attached. Eventually reaches its limit.

Signs advertising “Buyback and Rental Return” are placed all over college including outside.

Flyer sent to faculty who teach classes using rental book asking for their help.

Email blast.

13

Calls were made to all students who had not returned rental books during final two days of buyback – usually 200-400 students. Became too large a group to call.

Train cashiers to remind students that rentals MUST be returned.

Our non-return % has been 3-5%.

14

Page 15: A Viable and Controllable Rental Program is Possible at Your School

Lower costs to students. 23 books has students renting 2 to 4 books at a time.

An increase in buyback. Need to bring rental books in so they bring everything.

More students purchasing books for courses.

The bookstore controls how much is invested each semester.

15

Some types of financial aid will not cover rentals for various reasons.

System module does not always perform to expectations.

Even though our returns percentage is low, you still go through the multiple processes to get students to bring the books back.

Rentals cannot be done online at this time.

Response has been 99% positive. Time to serve students at text counter 2-4 minutes depending upon their questions.

Change to counter service has been extremely well received.

Positive article in local & student papers.

Take your time and spend what you can. Just starting a program will be met positively

regardless of how fast it grows. Make the deans and the faculty your

partners. Great way to get rid of pass codes and

bundles. But, if instructors insist on them, it can keep books out of rental program as well.

Power Point will be available on IACS website. My business cards are available in back – please call or email questions.
