Thomas Edison was probably thegreatest inventor in Americanhistory. But when he first attendedschool in Port Huron, Michigan, histeachers complained that he was

too slow and hard to handle. As aresult, Edisons mother decided totake her son out of school and teachhim at home.

The young Edison was fascinatedby science. At the age of 10 he had

already set up his first chemistrylaboratory. Edison eventuallyproduced in his lifetime more than1,300 inventions.
