We are hosting Alan Lewis because there are backlashes to deceptive business practices and it would be best to know what is going on before our supply chain gets
hit.
Alan Lewis is going to give us a front line look at what is going on in the food and
agriculture world with facts and plain understanding so we can form our own opinion.
Alan Lewis navigates government affairs and food and agriculture policy for Natural
Grocers, a Colorado based health food chain founded in 1955 with over 150 stores in 19 states. He also oversees organic certification and compliance while supporting
the development of small local food producers. At the federal, state and local level,
Alan engages on food, agriculture, nutrition, rural economic development, trade and health issues. Alan is active in several trade and advocacy organizations and has
been a speaker and panelist at many events, including a talk at TEDx Boulder in 2014. Long a student of political activism, his focus is on communicating with
stakeholders using frameworks that are non-confrontational and inclusive. Alan has lived oversees for extended periods, which lends to his understanding agriculture in
varying social and political contexts. Alan serves as an adviser to dozens of food, natural product, and tech start-ups across the country as part of his effort to
reinvigorate regional food systems, rural economies, and local supply chains.

Speaker and Topic: What is Greenwashing? When companies claim through advertising and other methods
to be healthy or sustainable. We’ve all had our suspicions. We have a section in CSCP to discuss it. We
know it is happening and most of the time we can even spot the advertising ploys designed to fool us. But what
is really going on? Isn’t it about time somebody close to
the issue provided facts and details about Greenwashing?

If Paul Stallings had been at the February PDM he would have won $500. March’s member only drawing will be $600 – you must be present to win!

Coach’s Corner Welcome to March 2019 Already! We are off to a good 2019 for APICS Education, Programs and Membership. Certification classes are in progress, a Seminar is coming in May, Membership is at a
high point and Programs has been putting on some great Professional Development Meetings. Programs also has set up some great tours for the Winter and Spring. These events are great
networking and usually a pretty good time.
Our Chapter is Co-Sponsoring a continent wide APICS Chapter volunteers meeting in Mexico in
March. We teamed up with the Guadalajara Chapter to invite many Chapters together to share information and best Chapter management practices. In addition, the Colorado Chapter will attend
APICS sponsored meetings in Washington DC and in Minneapolis this Spring. We will be able to

“I’d like to thank Roger Harris and Honey Johnson for their outstanding effort in delivering the APICS CPIM classes.
Their presentation and materials go beyond what I would have ever received without them and definitely contributed to my
passing both Part 1 and Part 2 CPIM exams. On a final note, both Roger and Honey made the classes fun and interesting, adding
much color to the class materials. Many Thanks to you both!” Jeff Lane, CPIM, Chief Information Officer, ADA Carbon Solutions
”The APICS classes were the best way I could have studied for the CPIM testing. They were very convenient to
take while I worked, even during the busy part of the year. Eight hour classes may seem like a lot on a Saturday but the
instructors are so energetic and dedicated to you understanding the material that the time flies by. By the end of each class I had a brand new understanding of concepts I wasn’t able to grasp by just using the study material alone. One of the coolest
aspects of APICS was the community. The classroom consisted of peers from all different walks of life and job perspectives and the out of classroom activities introduced me to even more people of the APICS community.“ Aaron Littlefield,
Manufacturing Engineer, Stolle Machinery Co

“As both a career advancement tool or a current state of "best in class" refresher, CLTD is a must have for industry participants When enrolled in the CLTD training course, the participants can easily attain a more complete understanding of the material and experience that "Aha" moment again and again by applying real world examples to the course material.” Christopher “Kit” Childers, CLTD, Supply Chain Professional
"In August and September of this year I was privileged to be include in the first class for the APICS Certification in Logistics, Distribution and Transportation in Denver Colorado. This class was my introduction to this discipline. The instructors were knowledgeable, helpful and dedicated in getting the subject matter across not just to pass an exam but on how to use this information to improve a business. Even though this is the first of its kind class in Colorado and was also pretty much my introduction to Logistics, Distribution and Transportation it provided me the knowledge and insight to pass the certification exam on my first try.” Ken Fiore, CPIM, CLTD, Operations Manager, Custom Stone Etching, LLC.

What are Students saying about APICS Education in Colorado?
“While I attended APICS classes, I was quick to realize the valuable resources being introduced. As a professional in
the supply chain world, I was able to immediately apply a number of the topics presented by APICS to our day-to-day
activities. APICS has set me apart from my peers, as I am now able to present ideas and tactics that are not readily understood by everyone. I am grateful for the knowledge I have received and am excited of the possibilities going forward” Dan Clement,
CPIM, Distribution Center Manger, Brewers Supply
“This (CSCP) class and certification will be useful to me both in my current role as a production planner, as well
as in any future opportunities to increase efficiency and improve the bottom line in all aspects of supply chain!” Maelle Mann,
CSCP, Production Planner, Keysight Technologies
“By expanding my knowledge into areas where I have little experience will help turn my company into best in class.”
Trevor Daly, CSCP, Dish Network
“As a young professional looking for a way to further my career and knowledge of Supply Chain, I found these
classes from the local APICS Colorado Chapter. The instructors are very experienced in the supply chain industry and teach in a
way that makes the material easy to understand and fun to learn. The classes have helped me in my current job complete
projects with confidence. There were also great students that helped me learn from their experiences as well as build many
friendships. I would highly recommend these courses to anyone new to the supply chain industry, or even those that have been
in the industry for a while, anyone who deals with the supply chain of a company. It will help tremendously. I plan on getting
the CSCP certification in the future and will take the classes from these instructors, there’s just no other way.” Joseph
McQueen, CPIM, Sr. Supply Chain Analyst, Charter Communications
“The APICS CPIM classed taught by the APICS Colorado Chapter 81 was outstanding. The knowledge the
instructors bring to each class made understanding the material very easy. Every detail has been thought through from how
the classroom is set up to help people become engaged and to stay engaged during the class, to bringing in specific instructors who specialize in specific topics, makes this a fantastic learning environment. I believe I will have the competitive advantage
when taking what I have learned from the classes and applying it to my career.” Mike Hansen, Supply Chain Professional, Air Methods

MARCH MEMBERSHIP NEWS How is it March already? It feels like just the other day we were welcoming in the New Year with friends and family. Since the start of the new year, the chapter has welcomed many new members. To that tune, APICS Colorado Chapter 81 current has 402 members, with over 50% holding one or more APICS certifications. That’s incredible! Although Spring certification courses are already under way, it’s a great time to reflect on your current membership and assess if your current membership type is fulfilling your needs. Whether you’re a long-time member of APICS or just starting off your career, everyone could use a refresher on membership types, levels, and benefits. The table below outlines the APICS memberships as they are today:
Last, I encourage you to take a few minutes to log into your profile on the APICS corporate website (www.apics.org) and review your membership status.
