Centre Opening TimesWeekday08.30 - 17.00 Monday - Friday

Weekend09:00 - 16:30 Saturday - Sunday (Teaching days only, please check with customer services)

Bus – From the Train Station or town centre to St John’s Innovation Centre.

Service: Bus No 99 (Green Bus) Babraham/Milton Park & Ride Service.

Guided Bus – The Busway route connects Huntingdon, St Ives, Sommersham and Cambridge. Routes A and C cover the Cambridge Science Park, which is the closest stop to SJIC. A guided bus will take approximately 22 mins.

Arriving by busArriving by car

From the south via the M11 – Exit the M11 at Junction 14 and follow the signs towards A14 Ely and Newmarket (not A14 Huntingdon). Once on the A14 follow the directions immediately below.

From the A14 – Take the exit signposted A10 Ely, Junction 33. At the roundabout take the exit towards Cambridge along the A1309 Milton Road. Immediately after the roundabout, filter left and take the first left turn, into Cowley Road, and the first left again.

From within Cambridge – Follow the signs towards Milton via the A1309. At the traffic lights (where the entrance to Cambridge Science Park is on your left) go straight ahead, then move into the extra lane on the right hand and turn right into Cowley Road, then take the first turning on the left.

There is free parking available on site.

You can find us at

On arrival you will see a plasma screen which will display all the classrooms for that day so that you can find out where you need to be.

Arriving by train

Cambridge railway station has regular connections from London King’s Cross, Liverpool Street, Stansted Airport, Peterborough, King’s Lynn and Norwich. From the railway station, you can use a taxi or bus service detailed above. Cambridge North is a 15 minute walk to St John Innovation Centre.

Student supportAt Kaplan, we have two teams that can help you with your queries.

Response time: We aim to respond to all queries within 48 hours, but at peak times this may take a little longer.

Course timetablesPlease arrive at college at least 10 minutes prior to the course start time, so you can find your classroom and settle in before the course begins.

Dress CodeThere is no formal dress code for students – we simply ask you to wear clothes which are non-offensive and comfortable. The majority of students wear jeans and a T-shirt.

InternetAll Kaplan centres have Wi-Fi broadband, so you can bring your laptop and log-on during your breaks if you wish.

BreaksYour specific class times will be shown on your course timetable, however it is normal to have a short break during each session and lunch time is 13.00 – 14.00 each day.

Kaplan Birmingham has refreshment areas and vending machines within the centre. You can also purchase food and drink at a number of local outlets and supermarkets nearby. Alternatively, you can bring a packed lunch. We’re reducing our impact on the environment by removing single-use plastic cups from all of our centres. Please bring a reusable water bottle to class so that you can refill from one of our water coolers.

HomeworkStudying in your own time is an important element of all our courses. This is likely to start from day one and increase greatly towards the exams.

Homework cont.Your tutor will provide guidance and highlight key areas for you to focus on, MyKaplan now includes a ‘homework’ resource to help you structure homework and study outside of the classroom.

StationeryYou are advised to bring the following items to class with you:

Large notepad

Calculator

Pens, pencils, ruler, rubber, highlighter pen

Course materials – provided on the first day of each course

Heath & SafetyYour tutor will explain the Fire Evacuation and alarm testing procedures on the first day of your course.

Please ensure you sign the class register each day and inform your tutor if you need to leave early so we can account for you in case of emergency or evacuation.

Also, if you are a sponsored student we are under obligation to report you as absent to your training manager if you have not signed the register.

If you are unsure of any procedures or information, please speak to reception or your tutor who will be able to assist you.

Our coaching system* is dedicated to keeping you on track and making sure you succeed.

• We will monitor how well you’re doing in your course, and use data to identify any key problem areas and step in when you need support.

• We’ll give targeted recommendations and suggestions on how to make the most of your study time.

• Acting as your personal mentor, your Coach will be your point of contact during your studies.

• We encourage that you turn to them and build a strong relationship.

You’ll get pastoral support from your Coach, which means receiving extra information and advice on study tips to help you complete your course on schedule and. generally have a more positive learning experience.

Another news update post

A set of dashboards for online test results is available for tutors and students. The dashboards allow

you to access more granular detail about student performance in tests, such as correct/incorrect

answers for individual questions and performance by topics within the course.

The dashboards are available for ACCA, CIMA, ACA , AAT and ATT courses.

If you have any problems please visit the Help & Support link in the blue navigation bar. You can access FAQs and information on how to get help from our Student Services and Academic Support teams.

Many courses include pre-course work designed to make sure you are fully prepared to start studying towards a specific exam. Make sure you log into MyKaplan before your course starts to check out any pre-course guidance and complete the initial assessment (if relevant).

This will make things much easier from day 1 of your course and give you best possible chance of success.

Pre Coursework

Please make sure that you click on the ‘end assessment’ button at the end of your Knowledge Checks, Tests and Online Mocks on MyKaplan. Only by doing this will your result and progress be correctly recorded.

As well as your formal course content, Kaplan students have access to Kaplan VideoBank – a searchable repository of bite-sized videos covering both technical topics and study skills. Access VideoBank from the Course content link in your course. Browse and search our curated videos as and when you need to support your understanding of specific topics.

Once you have access MyKaplan, keep your details up to date in ‘My Account’. Then we can fully support you during your studies. Check out the full instructions on how to update your details.

Access to your MyKaplan course(s) is based on the optimal time to complete a course and sit the exam. Our research shows that there is an optimal period in which to complete your studies and final exam. Prolonging studies or delaying your final exam can significantly impact your chances of passing.

MyKaplan course expiry dates are set based on this research (with a little bit of extra time added just in case you need to resit). Details can be found in our core T&Cs.
