Program

Humble Design in downtown Detroit is

one of our Farber High School students’

favorite Chessed stops. Last week, our students

fulfilled their Eimatai Chessed hours by

volunteering at the non-profit that helps families

transitioning out of homeless shelters by providing furnishings and design services.

5th Grade Math Enrichment

Who doesn’t love math, technology and sports? Mrs. Jubas’ math enrichment students combined these three interests and shared a variety of statistics on Kevin Durant’s basketball performance this season. After studying mean, medium, mode and range, Maayan Vanderhoek, Eli Schwartz and Ari Schon presented an in-depth analysis of Durant’s points and assists to fellow students, parents and faculty. The statistics were prepared on Google Slides, reviewed by Mrs. Jubas and presented with oral commentary by Maayan, Ari and Eli. These budding sports analysts not only showcased their newly acquired math and technology skills, but created fellow Durant fans out of their audience members.

Our Farber ECC students and their special friends enjoyed another wonderful Special Friends Day program last Friday. Under the guidance of our fabulous ECC teachers and Director, Anita Batt, Nursery 2 through Kindergarten sang songs to their special friends in the main sanctuary and enjoyed a “Book Walk” about “All of Me” sponsored by the PJ Library, followed by playtime with an assortment of Discovery Toys sponsored by Toyology. Our young learners enjoyed singing with their special friends, playing together and discussing all of the fun discoveries at the Farber ECC.

!Tu B’shvat is Approaching - ט’’ו בשבט היגיע

The פסוק says: סעו" צעק אלי דבר אל בני ישראל וי שה מה ת אמר ה' אל מ "וי

“Hashem said to Moshe, why are you crying out to me? Speak to Bnei Yisrael and travel.” What is Hashem’s concern with Moshe? Moshe and the entire Bnei Yisrael are stuck between a rock and a hard place. Behind them is an angry mob of Egyptians consisting of the finest soldiers, horses and chariots chasing after them in order to prevent them from leaving Egypt. Before them is a sea without any means of transportation for crossing, also preventing complete exoneration from Egypt. There, amidst the chaos, is Moshe and Bnei Yisrael in a bit of a predicament. They are supposed to leave Egypt, but how? What else can they do at this point besides cry out towards Hashem for help! Does the situation not justify such a response? Many commentators explain that Hashem was not concerned that Moshe was Davening to him at such a dire time. Rather, Hashem’s concern was regarding the moment in time in which he was Davening. Hashem was telling Moshe not to despair so early, there is still room to try before giving up. Take those extra couple of steps into the Yam Suf to the point where you have exerted all of your

physical and mental ability. Once you have done all that you can, then you may Daven for help. This is how we can understand the פסוק . “Why are you crying out towards me”, at this moment? You still have room to try and exert more effort. “Speak to Bnei Yisrael and travel”, take those extra few steps and then ask for my help. At different points in our lives we reach a moment of feeling helpless, whether at home, work, or school. But before we despair and rely only on our Tefilot, we should ask ourselves, have we given it our all? Have we put forth all our effort in order to succeed? Have we mentally, physically, and monetarily pushed ourselves to the limit? The Torah is telling us in order to see growth, change and success in all areas of life, we must put forth our utmost effort together with Tefilah. When Hashem sees our earnest efforts and hears our sincere Tefilot, He will then make sure that nothing can stand in our way of success. Shabbat Shalom!

Despite the freezing temperatures, spring was in the air this week at Farber with the Shlichim’s Tu B’shvat program in our Elementary Division. Leah, Hadas, Michael and Ariel created a Tu B’shvat Seder where our students discussed the ארבה מינים , enjoyed grape juice and other fruits, nuts and treats designated for the holiday. The Shlichim also hosted one of their signature ק‘פולצ lunchtime café sessions—a delicious, fun “Hebrew-only” zone. Of course, the

café this month was Tu B’shvat inspired!
