Contest Management On behalf of the American Guild Of Music Board of Directors and the Great Lakes Regional Contest Committee, it is our honor to welcome each and everyone of you to the joint 40th Anniversary Great Lakes Regional Contest and 116th annual National Convention and Contest sponsored by Evola Music. A joint contest is nothing new to the AGM. In fact joint con- tests used to be the practice when nationals went to a city where regional contests were held until 1982 This year circumstances made us revisit that concept and result was stunning This con- test has the largest amount of students participating in a sum- mer contest in 33 years! Topping that record is the fact that this contest has 2700 events scheduled for the week, making it the largest AGM National Contest ever! Many of you are attending a National Contest for the first time. Nationals are 4.5 days long and meant to be a relaxing contest where you meet new friends just like you with music as a common thread. The National Contest has an opening ceremony, where you play games, and learn about the contest and its your first introduction to your fel- low competitors. Nationals has a Convention Choir and a Convention Orchestra that you can join and practice every day then perform together with your new friends at the awards. They are held in different cities in different parts of the country so you can explore new areas. It has a teaching course for older students to teach you some of the basics about teaching to let you decide if that is something that you would like to go into. Finally, it has a semi formal banquet where you can celebrate with your fellow students and hear the winners of the top NAIC categories. Everyone here has the common bond of music and strives to achieve the very best results from their work. Remember that we all can not take home a trophy this weekend but we all take home life learning experiences and memories that will last a lifetime and will build character for tomorrow. Strive to do your very best and have fun doing it. When you're participating in the contest, don't forget to share your experiences. Take your pictures at the AGM photo booth and take pictures with your phones. Send your pictures to our social media by tagging us on Facebook @americanguild or on Twitter and Instagram @AGM_contests or #agmglr. Visit our Facebook page where you can see your pics, tag yourself and share with friends at facebook.com/americanguild! The committee has worked hard all year to make this a great time. Make the most of it and attend all the night time activities, listen to new performances, make new friends and have fun. Good Luck to each and every one of you and remember this is your moment.
