6 STEPS TO START YOUR ONLINEWELLNESS BUSINESS

(AND THE EXACT TOOLS I RECOMMEND)

a wellpreneur getting started guide

Are you ready for morefreedom + flexibility in

your wellness business?

I want you to know that some of the links in this guide are affiliate links. That means I may receive a commission if you use them to make a purchase.

I only recommend tools that I personally have used + think are great. If you don't want to use these links, simply google the tools yourself.

Thank you for supporting wellpreneur!

Step 1: Setup youremail listYour email list is the very first thing you should set up for any newbusiness, so you can start building an audience immediately. This ishow you’ll build trust and your reputation with your potential clients, and also make offers so they can work with you.

MailchimpAweberConvertKit - for more advanced automation + autoresponders

Not sure which to choose? Pick MailChimp. You can’t go wrong withthem, and you can always grow into a different service later.

Whatever you do, do NOT DIY your email list (here’s why) - use aemail list service instead. I recommend:

Step 2: Create a greatopt-in gift

How are you going to get people to join your email list? With avaluable free opt-in gift, of course. It can be a PDF guide, eBook, mini-course (delivered via email), videos, audio meditations … thepossibilities are endless! The key is that it’s valuable to your idealclient (it solves a problem for them and is genuinely useful.)

Here are some tools you can use to create your opt-in gift:

Canva - quick and easy DIY graphic designWistia - professional video hosting

Fiverr - hire someone to make a pretty PDF or edit a video for you, from $5.

Not sure what to create? Think of the #1 question that people ask you, and createa 3-5 page PDF guide giving a simple explanation, some tips and a link to book acall with you at the end.

Upwork - a huge freelance marketplace to find any kind of graphic designer,video/audio editor, writer or virtual assistant to make your free gift a reality.

Step 3: Create a website orlanding page where people cansign up for your listDespite what you might think, you do NOT need a website to startgetting clients. Creating a website can be a huge source ofperfectionism and procrastination for new wellpreneurs. Instead, startwith a simple landing page where people can sign up to get your freeopt-in gift. You can build out your website later. Here’s what I use to create great landing pages:

Leadpages

GoDaddy - buy the domain name (web address) for your new website

And when you're ready for a website, I recommend...

Wordpress - a widely supported, flexible website platform

Headway Theme - a drag-and-drop Wordpress theme

WP-engine - premium Wordpress hosting including strong security and backup

Hostgator - low cost hosting, but remember to backup your website!

Step 4: Create valuablecontent, regularly.

Your content could be a blog, videos, podcast etc. It really dependson your strengths (do you prefer to write or talk?), what you’re mostinterested in, and what kind of content your ideal customer prefers. Your content establishes you as an expert, and builds a relationshipwith your audience. It’s also how new people are going to find you(when your content is shared on social media or appears in Googlesearches.)

Bonus tip: always have a sign-up form for your email list in or nearyour content. For example, put a signup form at the bottom of yourblog post, or mention the web address to sign up at the end of yourvideo. In Wordpress, you can embed a signup form below your blogposts with the Magic Action Box plugin.

Step 5: Promote, promote, promote! Now that your basic audience-building system is setup, it’s time to get somesubscribers! You can promote your opt-in gift and your free content on socialmedia, write guest blogs on more popular sites, or even reach out to peopledirectly. There are endless ways to promote your content. You’ll want to spendat least an hour or two on promotion each week.

Buffer - my very favorite social media automation tool, create a queue of postsyou’d like to share, and buffer drips them out at scheduled times. THE easiestway to share content you find elsewhere on the web with your audience.

Hootsuite - an all-in-one social dashboard to manage all of your accounts.

Edgar - a premium social automation tool that excels at promoting your‘evergreen’ content. This is the tool to use when you want your past blog poststo be promoted over and over again (and yes, you do want to do this!) Mostuseful once you have a solid set of content on your website.

NinjaOutreach - a research tool to easily find and contact bloggers who writeabout certain topics. You can ask to write a guest blog for their site, or simplyshare your related content with them.

Step 6: Nurture +make offers

Now that your email list is growing, you need to email them regularlybuild a relationship - and also make offers so they can buy yourproducts and services! You’ll do all of that from your email tool (seeStep 1), but once they’ve bought from you, here are two of my favoritetools to work with clients:

ScheduleOnce - this online calendar takes client bookings for you and will saveyou TONS of time, even if you’re just starting out. No more emailing back-and-forth to figure out an appointment time - clients just book themselves in and itsends automatic reminders. Amazing!

Zoom.us - super simple video conferencing to conduct client appointments orgroup coaching sessions. Built-in recording function. Really good video quality. And it’s free for up to 40 minutes.
