Festival of Sharing We are pleased to announce that a total of 724 items were collected this year. The items were taken to our local Sharefest on October 18 & 19 by the youth, where they were assembled into kits and distrib-uted to local charities for dis-persing to the area needy. Thanks to all that participated.

Per Capita The Per Capita allocation for

2019 is $31.00 per member. There are special envelopes in your contribution packets you received in December. Or,

you can just use a “Welcome” envelope available in the sanctuary. Please designate

“Per Capita” on the outside of your envelope.

The Presbytery set the Per Capital allocation for 2020 at

$32.00 per member.

Mission Garden

Thanks to our Master Garden-er and his helpers, approxi-mately 100# of God's Green Beans were harvested and dis-tributed to Loving Hearts. A special thanks to Gretchen Farrell for packaging all the beans and transporting them.

Coffee Sales Equal Exchange, Fair Trade Coffee Sales - Sales have been very good, necessitating a second order. The profits from the sale, along with sep-arate contributions will be designated to Marion Medical Mission, specifically for their Water Well project in Africa. Our goal is to donate enough funds to provide 3 wells ($1350). See December Pres-bits for fund raising updates.

Proverbs 29:18a

“Thanks for…What?”

November is Thanks-Giving

month, but, of course, we give thanks every month. Indeed, we should give thanks and praise to God every day and

even every minute of every day.

We are to give thanks for God’s many blessings to us. So we

think, perhaps, of our wellbeing and health, our peace and pros-perity, our meaningful work and pleasurable pastimes, our

families and friends. We see pictures of family members gathered from near and far, sit-

ting at tables spread with an enormous variety of favorite and familiar foods. Or we see other, smaller and simpler

scenes of togetherness and goodness.

We don’t think of giving thanks for less pleasant realities: phys-ical pain, mental anguish, lone-liness, or hopelessness. We do not believe that God brings us natural disasters of floods and fires; nor does God bring us dis-ease or infirmity. All these come from nature.

And human nature causes war, domestic violence, destruction

and upheavals of different, more personal sorts.

But when we give thanks to God it is important to be honest and

forthcoming about our actual current circumstances, experi-ences, and observations. Not all

of life is wonderful and we ought not just sugarcoat our cir-cumstances nor sweep them un-der the rug by shrugging it off as

“God’s Will.” But negative hap-penings need not be all bad. We aren’t enthusiastic about

physical pain, but we do know that pain is helpful in alerting us to something that needs atten-tion and fixing. We are not en-

amored with mental anguish, isolation, confusion, or aimless-ness: we want to be focused,

loving-and-loved sociable be-ings with purposeful endeavors and goals. But perhaps when we can face adversity with

strength and confidence we can get on with life and enable other survivors to succeed as well.

The Remote (Continued from page 6)

So, in our thanks-giving we should acknowledge all that is in our hearts, heads and hands - and “on our plates” along with the feast-day food. It is not only Things – tangible or intangible – with which we are blessed, but also Faith, Hope, and Love that enable us to give thanks for all of life’s happen-ings. We are not thankful for suffering but we are thankful for the perspective on life we attain from having suffered. When we have lost much we can rejoice in what we may have found because of loss. In our weakness and helplessness we can acknowledge more poignantly God’s gracious for-giveness and love. In short, we thank God that we are human and rejoice in all that life gives us.

Warners’ Warm-Up Coat Drive

It is time again for the weather to turn a bit chilly and that means only ONE thing…the Warners’ Warm-Up Coat Drive is starting! This year, the two week collection period, October 25th – November 7th, is a little earlier to match with the STL area drive but everyone needs to know that ALL the coats we collect in Franklin County STAY in Franklin County as we disperse all the coats to nine area needy agencies. We are desperate for children’s coats, as always! Every agency wants children’s coats but we accept any jacket or coat, men’s women’s or chil-dren’s, slightly or gently worn, or even BRAND NEW! Please see our own collection box in the main church hallway but we have 35 collection sites all over Frank-lin County, from Pacific to New Haven, Washington to Union and St. Clair. This is our tenth year in Franklin County, so let’s amp things up, get those closets cleaned out and collect those coats! Thank you!

“Reel Faith” Movie Club Everyone is invited to the “Reel Faith” Movie Club! Each month, Pastor Pat will pick a movie that everyone can go and see at their leisure. Then the group meets to discuss themes, theological under-pinnings, and various theatrical nuances. We’ll announce the mov-ie at the beginning of each month to give ample time to see it be-fore the Club meets on the last Monday of the month at 7:00 p.m. for fellowship and discussion. November’s “Reel Faith” movie is the 2019 film Harriet, based on the thrilling and inspirational life of the iconic American freedom fighter. Harriet tells the extraordinary tale of Harriet Tubman’s es-cape from slavery and transformation into one of America’s great-est heroes. The movie is rated PG-13. Harriet opened in theaters on November 1st. Watch Harriet sometime in November and join us for “Reel Faith” Movie Club gathering at 7pm on Monday, November 25th at the church. For more information, contact Pastor Pat.

Pet Blessing THANK YOU!

Thank you so much to all who helped with the service, all who donated food, and all who attended and enjoyed the wonder-ful weather during our 6th Annual Blessing of the Animals Service we had on Sunday, October 13th on the back patio of our church. All, or most pets were very well behaved, and some were quite nervous, but they were all individually blessed and given so much love! We are privileged to cele-brate the connection with our pets in such a beautiful service on our property and welcomed about 60 humans that day along with over 30 pets: 26 dogs, 5 cats and one cute goat! We collected over 170 pounds of Purina dog and cat food and $176 in monetary donations, all of which will benefit the Franklin County Humane Society very well. Thank you to Lin-da Booher, not only a church member of PCW but she repre-sented the FCHS Board that day and is quite the animal lover as well. Many thanks to Vivian Marshall who made all the custom pet bandanas in several different pet sizes. We also had homemade dog treats for all of our canine visitors. Many thanks, also, to Ian McCracken, Andy Wanager, Pastor Pat and all the youth that were there to expertly take on the indi-vidual pet blessings and even hand out several hugs and head pats! We look forward to continuing this wonderful tradition next year!

Alternative Gift Market

As Christians, we are called to care for the least of these, show-

ing our love of Christ through our actions. The Alternative Gift Market being held on November 17th and 24th and December 1st is a wonderful opportunity to show our Christian love and to learn about projects around the world that relieve poverty and

suffering. Thirty projects ranging from water wells in South Su-dan to medicine for Burmese refugees are available through our partner, Alternative Gifts International. An Alternative Gift is a

humanitarian gift given in honor of a friend or loved one. Just like traditional gifts, Alternative Gifts express love and affec-tion, celebrate occasions and show you care. Alternative Gifts express our stewardship of the world God gave us, and give us a

real way to care for our brothers and sisters. An order form is available on the following page for your ordering convenience.
