“Connected drone”: mobile network requirements
Long term 5G specs have built-in drone-requirements (Massive MIMO / beamforming)
BUT: 4G can cover most of the requirements on the medium-term but might require extra network investments
- Areal sectorisations & special drone-antennas
- Specific new software features to improve drone-performance
Medium term Long term

Proximus Secured Explore Mobile Access can offer
a fully secured access from drone to control-center
WHY private secured connectivity?
• Better performance:
• Higher redundancy and availability
• Better latencies and higher QoS possible
• Security: no risk for attacks and hacking
• Higher support model & more advanced trouble
shooting and problem analytics
=> Minimize down-time and maximize security !

Drone Tracking over the Proximus LoRa* network
Proximus 22 oktober 2019 18
• Use the nationwide Proximus IOT LoRa (LongRange)
network for drone geo-localisation tracking : LoRa-
LBS(*) and/or GPS-tracker based
• Test results:
• Very good LoRa Coverage
• GPS-data is sent every 1 second
• Good accuracy of LoRa-LBS: <50 meters delta versus GPSThus good independent geo-source)
• Low Packet loss for 120m flight: < 2,5%
• Packet loss for 30m flight: less then 1%
(*) LBS = location-based-services

Drone Tracking over the Proximus LoRa network
Proximus 22 oktober 2019 19
Conclusions:
The Proximus LoRa network can deliver a secure
(spoofing & Wifi-jamming resilient), independent & co-operative surveillance
solution for geo-localisation verification (both independent via GPS-data & LoRa-LBS)
• Test results Sint-Truiden: • Test results Antwerpen:
Flight 90m: Green = GPS / Blue = Tracklog / Red = LBS dataFlight 90m: Green = GPS / Blue = Tracklog / Red = LBS data
Measurement results St-Truiden en Antwerpen: max deviation LoRa LBS versus Drone GPS: max deviation = 170m / average deviation = 55m

(*) Different devices/systems can possibly be integrated and are compatible with common drone autopilots that support serial
communication and the MAVLink protocol, such as the Pixhawk, as well as common ground control stations like QGroundControl and
Mission Planner, DJI Guidance (i.e. BOTLINK XDR, www.flytbase.com , …)
• #5 drone-layer enabled SIM-cards for the Droneport community
• free of charge• Only valid for non-commercial
test purposes in Droneport(or on explicit request Antwerp)
WHAT IS OUR OFFER ?
• 4G Enabled drone for C2 and/or data-payload (*)= AIROBOT competence
• IMPORTANT: make sure to use a 4G-Band 1 supporting 4G-modem
WHAT IS REQUIRED ?
• SIM-cards will be managed by Droneport office
• Test duration = upon availability• Requests can be addressed to
[email protected](Tel: 011/46,00,66)
WHERE CAN I GET IT ?
• Offer is valid till end of 2019 and subject to potential extension in 2020
• The drone-layer connectivity is only foreseen for testing purposes and there is no commitment for a commercial launch
• Proximus can do tracing of network performance and request information on the test-cases for which the SIM-cards are being used
