Waste for recycling is sifted by hand and the people employed to do it earn £1.00 a day.
There are mosques and temples catering for religious needs

It has a village type atmosphere People work closely together so there is good community spirit.
85% of people who live in Dharavi are employed (high %)
Many houses are built out of poor material

They recycle 80% of all waste compared to the UK who recycle 23%
Some houses have as many as 5 people sleeping in one room.
Informal shopping environment, you are able to buy anything you might need.
There is a central clothes washing area which bring people together.
Sometimes sewage water flows in to the clothes washing area.
Many people live in small houses 12ftx12ft.
Up to 500 people share one toilet
Water is rationed and only comes on between 5.30A.M and 7.30A.M
People who live there are happy.
