Her Company istaking ‘Permíteme Bailarte’ to thestage at the Albéniz Theatre in Madridfrom May 6th to 11th with a choreo-graphed show about the BoleraSchool – the name of the 18th cen-tury dances –. The dance includesmany classical steps, but is full of theSpanish style that was typical at thetime. The dancers in the Aída GómezCompany who won the NationalDance Prize in 2004 will perform intheatres throughout the Community.

These are not the only events thatwill commemorate the 200 years ofMay second. As of September, the‘Proclamations and Bans of the Warof Independence’ exhibit can be seenat the Real Casa de Correos. It is thefirst exhibition in the ‘National Epi-sodes’ series that will be modelledafter ‘The Ages of Mankind’.

The Prado Museum has a date withFrancisco José de Goya. In April visi-tors can see ‘Goya in Times of War’,an exhibit that evolves around histwo great paintings of May 2nd andMay 3rd of 1808. The celebrationswill also take to the big screen. JoséLuis Garci is prepairing a film aboutthe events that the citizens of Madridlived through on May 2nd afterNapoleon’s troops ente-red Spain.

The exposition willtake us on a journey through timewith the help of an elaborate audio-visual projection system that recrea-tes the events that took place inthe streets of the Spanish capitalfrom the early morning of May2nd, 1808 to the wee hours of thenext day. Pérez-Reverte is also theauthor of ‘Un Día de Cólera’, anovel that narrates this historicalepisode through the eyes of its lea-ding figures.

Exposiciones, música, danza, cine...Madrid se viste de gala para conmemo-rar el bicentenario del Dos de Mayo y elinicio de la Guerra de la Independencia.

ción centrada en sus dos grandeslienzos del 2 y 3 de mayo de 1808.Las celebraciones también van a lle-gar a la gran pantalla: José Luis Garciprepara una película sobre los hechosque vivió el pueblo madrileño el 2de mayo de 1808 tras la entrada delas tropas de Napoleón en España.

Y es que 200 años después, el espí-ritu de rebeldía y libertad que conta-gió a los madrileños vuelve a recorrerlas calles de la ciudad a través de susescenarios y salas de exposiciones.

Escritor y catedrático de HistoriaContemporánea, García de Cortá-zar es el encargado de difundir enla sociedad los valores de patrio-tismo y libertad que defendieron losmadrileños hace 200 años. Ade-más, la fundación nace con voca-ción de continuidad, ya que tam-bién será la encargada de prepararla celebración del Bicentenario dela Constitución de Cádiz de 1812.

2 ARTURO PÉREZ-REVERTE.

Desde el 26 de abril se podrá visi-tar en el Centro Arte Canal la expo-sición ‘Madrid 2 de mayo 1808-2008. Un pueblo, una nación’, co-misariada por el escritor, periodistay miembro de la Real AcademiaEspañola Arturo Pérez-Reverte. Laexposición –que contará con un sis-tema de proyecciones audiovisua-les– propone un viaje a través deltiempo para recrear los hechos quese sucedieron desde las primerashoras del 2 de mayo de 1808 hastala madrugada del día siguiente enlas calles de la capital española. Ade-más, Pérez-Reverte es el autor de‘Un día de cólera’, una novela quenarra ese episodio histórico a travésde la mirada de sus protagonistas.

3 ROLANDO VILLAZÓN. El tenormexicano, uno de los fenómenosoperísticos más sorprendentes delos últimos años, va a ser uno de losencargados de elaborar la bandasonora del bicentenario. El 28 deabril dará un concierto en el teatrode la Zarzuela, cuyo programaincluye obras europeas del reperto-rio operístico del siglo XIX, interpre-tadas por la Orquesta y Coro de laComunidad de Madrid. A pesar desu juventud, Villazón ha ganadonumerosos premios, como el reco-nocimiento Les Victoires de la Musi-que como Revelación Extranjera enFrancia en el año 2003, o el premioanual de la revista ‘Opernwelt’ comoCantante del Año.

4 AÍDA GÓMEZ. Del 6 al 11 demayo, la Compañía de Aída Gómezlleva al teatro Albéniz de Madrid‘Permíteme bailarte’, un espectácu-lo coreográfico sobre la EscuelaBolera, nombre con el que se cono-cen las danzas del siglo XVIII. Es unbaile que contiene muchos pasos

de la danza clásica pero impregnadodel estilo español característico deesa época. Los bailarines de la Com-pañía de Aída Gómez, Premio Na-cional de Danza en el año 2004,también llevarán su espectáculo aotros teatros de la región madrileña.

Pero estos no son los únicos actosque van a conmemorar los 200 añosdel Dos de Mayo. A partir de sep-tiembre, se podrá ver en la Real Casade Correos la exposición ‘Proclamasy Bandos de la Guerra de la Inde-pendencia’. Se trata de la primeramuestra de la serie ‘Episodios Nacio-nales’, que seguirá el modelo de‘Las Edades del Hombre’.
