Message from the Board ChairAs the chair of the HPCA Board, I have the distinct honor and privilege to work with a team dedicated to top-notch, Christian education for our community. With commitment to excellence, a love for Christ, an outstanding faculty and staff, and a supportive church and community, this great academic institution will continue to reach new levels of distinction every day.

I am honored to serve in this capacity as I continue to be astounded at the magnificent work that God has planned for our school.

I believe that I speak for the entire board when I say that I am proud of our school, I am thankful for our families and I am excited to see what this school year holds for High Point Christian Academy.

Karl Sherrill, HPCA Board Chair

Message from the Advancement Director Wow! What an incredible year for High Point Christian Academy. When I had the ability to begin my career at HPCA last July, I had no idea what my future would hold. Little did I realize the friendships I would make, the students who would touch my heart, but, most importantly, what God would do in my life.

Over this past year God has brought people into my life who have shown me how to rejoice each day – learning more about Him, living through His word, and seeing His hands in action in the lives of our students and families.

I am so thankful to work with incredible, supportive, Christian individuals. I appreciate each family at High Point Christian Academy, and that each one of them understands, values, and supports Kingdom Education, making it a priority in their lives.

I cannot wait to see what this school year holds for our school, families, and Him.

Message from the Head of SchoolThis past year was one of excitement, determination, and success. As we enter into our 24th year of providing Kingdom Education to our community, I am more excited than ever to be part of His plan for our academy.

As we embark on a new school year, our 2020 vision draws closer. We have made significant progress on making this vision into reality. Here we are able to showcase each initiative and the accomplishments that have been made over this past school year:

This is why we do what we do – so that our community, our students, and our families will have a caring, loving environment to thrive in academically, and to know, learn and understand the love of Christ.

Thank you for supporting us in this work. None of it happens without you.

Blessings!

Dr. J. Keith Curlee, Head of School

Initiative #1KINGDOM EDUCATION COMMITMENTOur goal is to strengthen our commitment to Kingdom Education in all areas and programs of our school – lead our students to Christ, build our students up in Christ, and equip our students to serve Christ.

• HS Mission Trip to Costa Rica• Intentional chapels, purity classes, and other

opportunities to discuss real life with students• Continued tweaking of Bible curriculum.• Dedicated weekly prayer time by TK-8 faculty• Continued emphasis on effective mentoring and

relationship building

Initiative #2CURRICULUM, TECHNOLOGY, AND INSTRUCTIONOur goal is to enhance our curriculum, instruction, and student learning through instructional and informational technology improvements.

• Issued each high school student a Chromebook™, which provided an opportunity for seamless integration of technology in the classroom

• Purchased additional Chromebooks™ for middle school

• Aligned the Math Curriculum which resulted in the purchase of new textbooks in elementary and middle school

Initiative #3FACILITY DEVELOPMENTOur goal is to provide the facilities to include a gymnasium, Fine Art components, and with other campus improvements, to develop and enhance the resources and programs of HPCA.

• Raised in donations and pledges approximately $1.6 million for our new student activities center

• Continued to work with Valley, Inc. to provide nutritious and delicious food options for our students and staff

• Renovated our elementary playground• Converted our HS media center to “The Loft”

Initiative #4FINANCIAL STABILITYOur goal is to sustain and develop business and operational practices that provide for long-term stability.

• Announced a low tuition increase ranging from 2%-3%. While remaining stable, we can provide Christian education to more families

• Continued to eliminate debt in an aggressive way. The ATC is now debt-free and the loan on the high school building is diminishing

• Increased fundraising net goal to $115,000 for the 2019-2020 K.M. Vestal Annual Fund

WHERE DONATED

K.M. Vestal Annual Fund

The cost to educate a student at High Point Christian Academy is more than the amount we

charge for tuition. To keep class sizes smaller and tuition costs

attainable, HPCA raises a portion of the annual operating budget from fundraising sources outside of tuition and fees. We refer to

this money as the Annual Fund.

The K. M. Vestal Annual Fund is used for classroom materials, technology, fine arts, teacher development and many other

basic daily expenses that contribute to the educational experience of every student

on our campus.

Claude and Mikki Gable Financial Aid

An ongoing High Point Christian Academy strength is a body of

bright and motivated students from varied backgrounds. Families who donate to our Claude and Mikki

Gable Financial Aid Fund are vital partners in ensuring that families with significant need are able to

join our Cougar family.

Planned Giving

A planned gift is an ideal way to impact High Point Christian Academy’s vision of Kingdom

Education for years to come – and is as simple as a properly-worded will. Providing and preparing for the future of Christian education in our community, planned gifts are invaluable for the stability for

our future students.

DOLLARS GO

Capital Campaign

As High Point Christian Academy moves into the year 2020, visions

of growth and expansion are becoming a reality. Tuition money

has always been strictly held for expenses within the annual operating budget; therefore,

all building construction, whether new or renovation, will

be funded through a special capital campaign with donations provided apart from other annual

giving funds.

Our school community is learning more about ways to get involved in this capital campaign over the

next year, and our donors are seeing their donations making a

difference in a big way!

Specific Purpose

Throughout the year funds are raised for specific needs. These

needs vary from athletics to fine arts to mission trips. These donated dollars fund specific initiatives for our students to

enhance their experience on our campus, in our community and

throughout the globe.

The Annual Cougar Cup Golf Tournament was held at The Meadowlands Golf Course. With 130 golfers, the day was filled with fellowship, prayer, delicious food and great golf! Each golfer had the opportunity to win a free car from

Modern Toyota with the “Hole-in-One” contest! Thank you to the Cougar Cup premier sponsor, Cook Out, and all other sponsors and teams for making this event a success.

Cougar Cup

HPCA Fundraising Event Highlights

CougarthonWe teamed up with Boosterthon last year to hold our first Cougarthon! This event consisted of a 35 lap run for our preschool – 5th grade students and a Color Run, complete with countless color bombs, for our middle and high school students. Families were challenged to meet a personal goal and with lots of joy, support, and commitment, our school was able to exceed the fundraising goal!

In fact, surpassing the goal resulted in shaved heads for both Dr. Keith Curlee, Head of School and Mr. Willie Guida, High School Principal while Mr. Scott Proheska, Elementary/Middle School Principal, Mrs. Kelly Walker, Media Specialist, and Mr. Todd Farlow, Middle School Teacher were both “slimed.”

Proceeds from this event supplemented the K.M. Vestal Annual Fund.

Over the course of our school year we meet our fundraising goals through various fundraising events. Last year, we held three major events to benefit targeted needs of our academy.
