Read the email below from Ellen to her old school friend, Susie, and complete the family tree with the names of the people.

Hi Susie,

Thank you for your email. It was lovely to hear from you after such a long time! I enjoyed reading about your family. Let me tell you about mine.

My daughter, Daisy, is 20 now and is at university. Her brother, James, is in his last year at school.

Do you remember Kate, my husband’s sister? She got married about six years ago and she has two twin boys! They aren’t identical twins. It’s really funny – Joshua has really dark hair but Sam’s hair is fair. They are lovely boys!

My brother Paul got married to a Swedish woman called Jenny but they don’t have any children yet.

I hope we can meet sometime soon.

Keep in touch,

Ellen

Reading Part two (5 marks)

Read the magazine article “Life on the Lake” about Steve Langdon. Answer the questions.

Life on the Lake

Every summer Steve Langdon comes to Lake Geneva - not Lake Geneva in Switzerland but in Wisconsin, USA! He doesn’t come here on holiday. He comes here to work for the U.S. postal service. Steve is the captain of a mailboat on Lake Geneva. Steve brings letters, parcels and newspapers to more than 60 houses by boat.

He says he loves his job and meeting people on his boat. He also takes passengers on his boat to different places on the lake. Local people and tourists can take a tour of the lake from Monday to Saturday at 10 a.m. On Sundays Steve doesn’t work. He usually relaxes on the beach or goes swimming in the beautiful lake.

But you can only see Steve and his boat in the summer. There is no mailboat service between September and May. Steve doesn’t stay when it gets cold. In September Steve goes to Florida and finds work there.

Bridgetown

It’s a beautiful, historic town with lots of interesting places to visit so it’s popular with tourists. It has a nice park and a river runs through the centre of the town. It is a busy town especially on Saturday mornings because there is a market. Calderwell is a very small town. There aren’t many shops but there is a beautiful church and park where you can walk or ride your bike. It is very quiet and there isn’t much to do but if you want to relax it’s a nice place to visit. There is a supermarket in the next town about 15 minutes drive from Calderwell.

Galston

Galston is a big, modern town. There aren’t many interesting places to visit so tourists don’t come here. There are lots of shops and two big supermarkets. There is a cinema and a theatre. There are also some really good places to eat especially if you like Indian food. There is a university here so there are a lot of students and there is always something to do.
