His work is represented in public and private collections in the United States and abroad. These include The British Museum, The Royal Museum of Fine Arts, Antwerp Belgium, Ministry of the Flemish Community, The Hood Museum, The Davis Museum, Yale University and many more. Ed Smith’s work is about the human condition and references antiquity, classicism and the dignity of labor. www.edsmithfineart.com Westbourne Grove Church ArtSpace sponsors the additional events www.westbournegrovechurchartspace.org Cole Swensen, USA (Visiting Writer) Cole Swensen is the Director of the Creative Writing Program at the University of Denver. She is the author of five collections of poems, including Try (University of Iowa Press, 1999), winner of the 1998 Poetry Prize; Noon (Sun and Moon Press, 1997), which won a New American Writing Award; and Numen (Burning Deck Press, 1995) which was nominated for the PEN West Award in Poetry. Cole Swensen’s poetry is based on research projects that attempt to collide the language of information with language as art, underscoring--and perhaps disrupting or dissolving-- the distance between these modes. Gregory Botts, USA (Visiting Artist) Gregory Botts attended the School of Visual Arts in 1970-72. He won a scholarship to the Skowhegan School in Maine in 1972. He was most recently represented by the Salander O'Reilly Gallery in NYC and The Gerald Peters Gallery in Santa Fe, New Mexico where he also keeps a studio. He still paints in NYC on the Brooklyn waterfront and has recently taught at the NY Studio School and at the National Academy School. www.gregorybotts.com Kathy Black, USA (VSC Program Director) Kathy Black’s work forces together images that may not belong together, gives the intense information that comes through painting from life and creates a place to explore metaphors that emerge from the collision of objects and images. She has shown her work in numerous group and solo exhibitions throughout the US and abroad. Kathy is currently the Program Director at Vermont Studio Center. www.kathyblackstudio.com George Pearlman, USA (VSC Executive Director) In painting as in reality the appearance of space is two dimensional and the experience is multidimensional. In painting we call this phenomenon plasticity. In the dynamics of this spatial experience lies the expressive value of a painting . It reflects the artists deepest feelings and touches on his/her every experience. I have found in my painting the more I push to explore these feelings the more I have attempted to capture a more expressive interpretation of the visual experience. Abstraction frees the spirit to allow for the deepest exploration of this expressive experience. www.vermontstudiocenter.org/georgepearlman This exhibition has been organized in agreement with Vermont Studio Center is a 501(c)(3) non-for-profit organization founded by Artists in 1984, the largest international artist and writer’s residency in the United States.
