William Johnston was born in Virginia in 1816 and married Rebecca Ann Tucker on 13 Aug 1835 in Mecklenburg County, Virginia. Rebecca was born in 1818 and was the daughter of Alexander S. Tucker and Elizabeth Coppock of Virginia. William and Rebecca came to Haywood County along with her parents and siblings in 1837 and settled in the Nutbush community. Family lore passed down in the family states that he was fi rst cousin to Albert Sidney Johnston,

William and Rebecca had 5 children and the 1850 Haywood County census shows them living in District 9 with children, James (b.1836 Ky); William (b.1838 TN); Alexander (b.1840 TN);Martha (b. 1842 TN); and Robert (b. 1844 TN). Rebecca was not shown on this census although

she was still living at that time. The Mortuary Schedule states she was age 34 and died in December, 1852 with cause of death, Paraletic. William died 1861-4 and both are buried in the Trinity Cemetery at Nutbush.

The only 2 of their children I can trace is Alexander and Robert. It is unclear what happened to James, Martha Ellen, Joseph and William. Maybe some of our readers know and can fi ll me in on the information. I have searched and searched and can’t come up with any concrete records on them.

Alexander A. Johnson was born 14 Feb 1842 in Haywood County and in May 1861, enlisted in Company D, 7th

Tennessee Calvary (Haywood Rangers) and served four years in the Civil War. After the war

he joined with the rest of the old soldiers to build the places that had been made desolate by the ravages of war. He was a gallant soldier, devoted husband and father, and a good citizen.

Alexander married Martha Ellen Bridgewater on 3 Jan 1866. Martha was born in Fayette County on 16 Mar 1846 and was the daughter of Benjamin P. Bridgewater and Martha Ellen Wright. They had eleven children: William (b.1866); James A . ( b . 1 8 6 9 ) ; H e n r y L. (b.1871);Albert S. (b.1872); Twins, Edward and Ernest (b.1878); Mary Lula (b.1880); Frances S.(b.1884); Martha Ellen (b.1885); Pattie L. (b.1887).

I found a deed dated 18 Oct 1890 where Alexander purchased 74 ½ acres of land in District 10. He purchased this from John Young Barbee

and was land originally from Virginia S. Oldham.

In 1880 the census shows them living in District 10 with their family. Martha Ellen’s parents were living with them. Next door was Robert Johnson, Alexander’s brother.

Alexander died 18 Sep1908 and wife, Martha Ellen died 9 Apr 1906 and both are buried in the Trinity Cemetery at Nutbush.

Natalie Ann Darnaby and David Harrison Pinner were united in marriage December 19, 2009 at Zion Baptist Church with Rev. Mark Conway offi ciating. Natalie is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Steve Darnaby. David is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Sydney Pinner of Covington.

Jennifer Darnaby, sister of the bride, was the maid of honor. Bridesmaids were Rebecca Davis, Sarah Halbrook, Elizabeth Lovell, and Rachel Sullivan, all friends of the bride, Lydia Pinner and Sara White, sisters of the groom. Honorary bridesmaids were Kaitlyn Schwarz and Peyton Wright, friends of the bride. Kelsie Oliphant, friend of the bride, and Faith Elizabeth White, niece of the groom, were fl ower girls.

Sydney Pinner was his son’s best man. Groomsmen were Taylor Jones, nephew of the bride, Jeffery Peach and Preston Turner, friends of the groom, Jeff Miller, Collin Pinner, cousins of the groom and Craig White, brother-in-law of the groom. Sam Harris White, nephew of the groom, was the ring bearer.

Soloists were Cindy Pinner, Sherry Tritt, Mitch Platz, Kim Schwarz and Cande Wright. The pianist was Rachel Conway Stewart.

Natalie was given away by her father, Steve Darnaby. She wore an elegant strapless tulle ball gown embroidered with pearls, crystals, and lace appliqués with a chapel train. Natalie borrowed her bridal bouquet of white silk roses from a dear family friend, Kim Schwarz in memory of her husband, Rusty Schwarz.

The wedding reception was held at the Brownsville Country Club. Family and friends enjoyed this special night with David and Natalie while dancing to the

music provided by David Walker, DJ. After spending the night at the Opryland Hotel, they fl ew to Denver, Colorado for their honeymoon.

Natalie is a fi rst grade teacher at Haywood Elementary, and David is employed by Ford Construction in Dyersburg, TN. They make their home in Brownsville.

What You Need3/4 c panko bread crumbs1 Tbsp fresh sage, chopped fine (or 1 teaspoon dried sage)1 tsp grated lemon rind1/2 tsp black pepper1 egg2 Tbsp water1 Tbsp mayonnaise1 Tbsp dijon mustard2 (10) oz pork cutlets, 3 Tbsp olive oil (apx)lemon wedge (optional)

Directions

• Combine first 4 ingredients on plate. Whisk egg and 2 Tbsp water in medium bowl to blend. Whisk mayonnaise and Dijon mustard in small bowl.

Panko Crusted Mustard Pork Cutlets

• Dredge pork cutlets (tenderized, if desired) with mayo-mustard mixture; dip into beaten egg, then coat with panko crumb mixture. Transfer to plate.

• Heat oil in heavy medium skillet over med-high heat.

• Add pork; cook until no longer pink on inside and crumbs are golden brown, about 5 minutes per side.

• Garnish with fresh sage, if desired, and serve with lemon wedges.

• Enjoy!
