Fryin’ up funds
Kelvin and Karol Evans know the meaning of giving back to the community. Two years ago their daughter, Anna, served as the ambassador for the March of Dimes raising money and awareness for the foundation. Today, the Evans still trot along the philanthropic road as they organize a fi sh fry selling plates with all proceeds donated to the March of Dimes. The Evans’ said the fi sh fry would not be possible with out the help of their friends and family. Pictured are Randy Holloway, Kelvin Evans and Ray Bunch.

The Joe Wheeler Chapter UDC September meeting
The Joe Wheeler Chapter, UDC met in the lovely home of Mrs. Wayma Richards Sept. 14. Six members enjoyed the caramel-pecan pie and coffee served by the hostess.
Yearbooks were distributed. Mrs. Kathryn Dixon, chaplain, gave the devotion. Mrs. Dixon led the ritual and the pledge to the fl ags.
Mrs. Mary Ann Shaw, pres-ident, gave the program on the diary of William R. Dyer of Eagleville. Dyer, a member of General Forrest’s escort, began the diary in January 1863 and ended in August 1864.
Wayne Bradshaw of Mon-teagle decided to edit and pub-lish the diary. The front part of the book is unedited; the latter part is edited by Bradshaw. The diary was published in 2009. Dyer wrote brief ac-counts of food, the weather, boredom, and terror. For-rest’s cavalry passed through Jackson, crossed the Hatchie River Bridge at Estanaula, and camped outside Brownsville on April 11, 1864.
The October meeting will be at Mrs. Helen Jane Shaw’s home.
