It is time, once again, for the annual Armbrust Acres Independence Day celebration. You are invited to join us for a day full of joy and fun. Like last year, there will be numerous things to do and enjoy!! Armbrust fun for old and young! Our celebration will begin with the traditional parade. At 10:30 am on July 4th, 2013 we will start our parade our normal starting point near 2756 South 167th Street. The parade will be headed up by a John Deere tractor provided and decorated by Green Wings and Landscaping. Decorate your strollers, bikes, trucks and cars as patriotic as you possibly can. Bring your whole family and invite your friends to join the parade and show your passion for our county. The parade will make its way to the park, where Kona Ice will be serving their famous flavored ice. Later that afternoon, the celebration will continue at the park with various activities. Since the kids had so much fun with the bounce castle last year, we decided to do it again. The maximum age for accessing the bouncy castle is 12 years old and we are only permitted to have a maximum of 8 children at a time inside. The kids should have a great time bouncing and making friends in our castle moonwalk. Once again, we are very pleased to offer food at the park. There will be burgers, hot dogs, chips and water, so start saving those one dollar bills as exact change will be highly appreciated. A face painter will join the celebration from 5:30 pm to 8 pm. The kids can have their face painted with something patriotic or anything else they would like. This year, the face painter is being sponsored by Armbrust Acres Home Owners Association, so everyone can enjoy this treat for free. The face painting will be located at the shelter. Starting at 4 pm, you can start signing up to win various prices for being a part of the Armbrust Acres Independence Day celebrations. At 6 pm, our DJ will turn it up and provide music from different decades including today's greatest hits and your requests. You are invited to dance, dance, dance on our basketball court and keep your body moving, have fun and burn those calories!! To top off our event is, of course, the fireworks which will start somewhere between 9 and 9:30 pm. Bring your chairs and stake out your first class seat at Armbrust Park to experience all of the bangs, booms, and bright lights up close!! See the sky come alive with vibrant hues, starbursts, and showers of light for a truly memorable experience. This is the biggest event of the year for Armbrust Acres and we would love to make this year even bigger! Come and join us for this huge celebration. Have fun dressing up in your best patriotic outfits, meet your neighbors old and new, and invite your friends and family to share this great event with them. AAHA Board of Directors Spotlight- Lyle Krueger-

For this 4th of July issueit's time to salute one of our own for his20 year service to our country and hisvo lun tee r commi tmen t to ourneighborhood.

Our Vice President has been seenclimbing trees to trim dead branches inCul-de-Sacs the entire month of October,in te rv iewing pageant winners ,investigating and helping settle neighbordisputes, overseeing meetings andpushing for park and entranceimprovements.

Lyle was born and raised on a farm inMalcolm, NE later moving to Lincolnwhere he graduated from Lincoln HighSchool. He served 20 years in the Navywhere he was stationed at San Diego,San Francisco, Dallas, Omaha and thePhillipines. He worked mostly inSupplies and Logistics before movingover to recruiting. Following his Navycareer, Lyle attended UNO and got adegree in Management InformationSystems (MIS) taking those skills toMutual of Omaha and TransactionApplication Group (TAG) until retiring

in 2010. He is a member of theAmerican Legion Post #374 in Millard,American Legion Riders and the PatriotGuard Riders where he participates inveteran funerals and parades.

Lyle met his wife Shirley (a PlattsmouthGraduate) while country dancing atOmaha's Guitars and Cadillacs. (thesame place he also took the famous BlueAngels after an air show). They marriedin January of 1998 and moved to theircurrent home in Armbrust Acres in Aprilof that year loving the maturity of theneighborhood and its neighbors. Sincemoving in, their top remodel jobsinclude a new kitchen, hardwoodflooring and lots of landscaping.

Between the two of them they have fourdaughters and eight grandchildrenspread out in Lincoln, Eagle NE,Phoenix AZ, Tuscon AZ and Oakland,IA. All four daughters have jobs in themedical profession taking after Shirleywho worked for 30 years as a CertifiedMedicalAssistant.

Lyle's biggest passion is his HarleyDavidson Heritage motorcycle. He gothis first motorcycle (a 1964 Honda) as aHigh School Graduation present butsoon developed a love for Triumphmotorcycles. With some urging fromwife Shirley, Lyle moved on to HarleyDavidson motorcycles eight years ago.They take regular motorcycle treks toColorado, Missouri, Arkansas andespecially the Sturgis, SD motorcyclerally finding the ride through theBlackhills spiritual. Their next trip thisfall will take them to New Mexico,Arizona and Colorado.

Guess Who Is A Resident OfAmrbrust Acres!!

On June 7, 2014 Megan Swanson wascrowned Miss Nebraska 2014 in NorthPlatte, NE.

Megan is 21 years young and has livedwith her family in Armbrust for the past18 years. Her parents are Sean and JulieSwanson. Megan has a brother, Ian, anda sister,Allie.

After Megan graduated from MillardNorth High School she went to BelmontUniversity in Nashville, TN. She ispursuing a major in Commercial Voiceand minor in Music Business.

There were ten finalists that wereparticipating that evening for the MissNebraska Scholarship Pageant.

She completely blew the judges awaywith her amazing vocal of 'You raise meup'. Other areas that were evaluatedwere evening gown, lifestyle, fitness andswimwear as well as an intense 15minute interview.

As the winner she will represent the stateof Nebraska in the Miss AmericaPageant 2014 in Atlanta. Megan will beextremely busy promoting her platformof total body wellness. She will serve asa mentor of wellness in her communityand instill an attitude of positivity andsuccess into every person with whomshe comes in contact with.

Megan aims to be a living example every

day of the balanced lifestyle anyone canachieve. She believes it takes themindset of achieving little victoriesevery day, while becoming educated inall aspects of wellness to help peoplebecome successful. For the past twoyears Megan has been leading Zumbaclasses as well as conducting personaltraining and nutrition counseling.

Each of these outlets gives her theopportunity to share the message of totalbody wellness with the communitywhile encouraging others to be active. “Ibelieve that the more transparent I canbe, the more impact I can have onothers”, Megan says.

MissAmerica and the Children's

Miracle Network Hospital have formeda partnership. This partnership requireseach local contestant to raise $100 foreach local she enters. Any amount overthe $100 can be applied to the next localor state pageant. There is a $400 cap onlocal fundraising. Any contestant whoraises $400 may enter unlimited localpageants. This on-line fundraiser is forthe Children's Miracle Network Hospitaland the MissAmerica Scholarship Fund.All local contestants must register at the“missamerica4kids.org” website wherethey may track their donations.

Upon winning a local title, the contestantis required to raise $250 to enter the statecompetition. The state winner will beresponsible for raising $500 to enter thenational competition. Again, anyleftover funds from local fundraisingmay be applied for that contestant'srequirements for state or national.

The board ofdirectors is a group of residents thatcome together monthly to govern andmanage the operations of the AAHA.Our board of directors is made up of thepresident, vice president, treasurer,secretary, as well as membersresponsible for membership dues,newsletter and website. In addition tothat there are people who fill themember-at-large positions. Themember-at-large position is a necessary

one that fills duties which do not fallunder the scope of the board officers.First and foremost, the members-at-large

of a board are the spokespeople for ourneighborhood. They act as sort of arepresenta t ive for the genera l

membership. Their focus should be onhow any policies and procedures theboard of directors wishes to enact willaffect these members and to raiseconcerns if the membership suffers inany way.The members-at-large are the peoplewho should be on the front line to headup committees. 1 (8 ounce) container frozen whippedtopping, thawed

1 pint blueberries, rinsed and drained

2 pints fresh strawberries, rinsed andsliced

1. Prepare cake according to packagedirections and bake in a 9x13 inch pan.Cool completely.
