( EXPERIENCE ä CONNECTIONS e YOUR FUTUREIn advertising, nothing is more valuable than real world experience working with clients, making ads and thinking critically.
AAF Illinois offers several ways to gain experience with our four in-house advertising agencies:
NSACEach year AAF Illinois participates in the National Student Advertising Competition (NSAC). This year’s client is Glidden, a paint company.
Participating students will go from research to a fully-integrated campaign and present it at regionals. NSAC provides hands-on experience for people interested in any aspect of advertising.
Midnight OilMidnight Oil is a student-run, full-service ad agency. Working with small to medium-sized businesses, the members of Midnight Oil utilize creative abilities
and advertising skills to satisfy client needs. Past clients include Illinois football and The Art Theater.
On the HouseOn the House is a student-run agency that prides itself on providing pro-bono services to other Registered Student Organizations (RSOs) on campus. By
providing services such as flier design, logo creation and guerilla marketing, On the House is a great place to begin building a portfolio.
MulticulturalIn addition to providing multicultural programming to the entire chapter, the Multicultural committee also functions as
an agency for several multicultural organizations on campus.
“Experience is the teacher of all things.”-Julius Caesar
The importance of networking is obvious. In addition to offering dozens of chances to hear from and meet people representing the best agencies around, AAF Illinois is a network in and of itself.
Agency PresentationsDue to our size and reputation, AAF Illinois draws the top agencies from Chicago, New York and other cities to our campus for recruiting presentations. Last year, Leo Burnett, Ogilvy and Energy BBDO were here (just to name a few).
AdVasionEach Spring, over 100 members invade Chicago ad agencies and media companies for one day. Last year, we visited 18 agencies and students were able to not only learn about agencies, but meet employees and see actual work. This event is capped off with an alumni networking event.
The AAF NetworkBeing a member of AAF Illinois means you are also a member of the national AAF organization. With this, you can receive many perks:• Free entry to the Mosaic Career fair ($90 value)• Most Promising Minority Student Scholarship• The prestigious Stickell Internship
70% of all jobs are obtainedthrough networking
Chapter Social EventsAs a chapter, we believe that some of the most important networking can be done here on campus between all of our members. In addition to getting involved in a committee, members can network at the following social events:• Barcrawls• Happy hours• Coffee hours• Movie nights• Spring Barndance
We have the future of each and every member in mind when creating our committees, programs and events. Our goal is to expand horizons and open doors. We are proud of our long history of members going on to do great work for amazing companies:
