DESCRIPTION

ACSI stands for a new generation innovation agenda. It aims to channel academic knowledge to create innovative solutions helping to tackle societal challenges. It serves as a stepping stone for creating a global networking culture that links operators at the forefront of the development to innovative collaboration. Representing a new type of an innovation conference, ACSI's main engines and actors in charge are the Aalto University and the New Club of Paris.

• In the end of typical project based innovation activities, the platform, channels, contacts and community seize to exist.

• In the worst case, ideas are not further incubated and implemented.

• Experimentation and quick prototyping are terminated and the acquired results often go to waste.

New-generation innovation activities are complex and global by nature. They are increasingly based on steering that supports self organization.

Therefore we need :

•A new-generation innovation agenda bringing forth a concept, operating mode and network for the development of a global innovation platform.

•Innovation activity which gives rise to an international, self-fortifying innovation community integrating research, learning and innovation.

•New type of frontier zones and developer forums which will be emerged in connection with this new innovation activity.

•Integration of different disciplines and nationalities into innovation nodes which opens new doors both for society and university.

What We Need for Innovation?

Aalto Camp for Societal Innovation ACSI

• ACSI is a meta-level innovation platform that networks researcher and user communities.

• It builds up a global, self-renewing collaboration network and integrates global societal innovation activities for learning, research and rapid implementation.

• ACSI will create an innovative operating mode that incorporates the annual Aalto Camps into university research, teaching as well as global innovation activities throughout the year.

• The international ACSI community produces innovative solutions meeting the needs of real life cases of society and enterprises.

An international ACSI 2010 proto takes place in Finland June 28th to July 5th

Aalto Camp for Societal Innovation ACSI

March 2010 PS, MM, MPI

The ACSI 2010 prototype will bring forth:

• A new-generation concept of societal innovation,

• A global researcher and developer network for societal innovations with the related platforms, methods, and leadership.

• Models and channels for societal decision making and implementation for swiftly integrating innovations into practice.

• An international learning environment for societal innovations, anchored in Finland.

• Eight days and approximately 60 participants including 30 participants from abroad: professors, students, post-graduate students, and working life experts.

• Three themes and six cases

• Within Aalto University, the endeavour will be headed by director Markku Markkula and professor Pirjo Ståhle.

Lectures about theory and empirical practice of innovation activity and its significance for society.

Theoretical frameworks for innovation, which will be deepened and studied during the camp.

Group Work at Dipoli and Team Building at Nuuksio National Park. Starting of the case teamwork.

The groups make a one-day visit to their case site: presentations, interviews, working, local activities.

Facilitated work in groups and themes. The groups work on their own case and familiarize themselves with the cases processed in the other groups: sharing experiences and material.

Attendee presentations: new innovation openings from the world, introduction to new theory and implementations. Several tracks. In-depth, experimental approach to social innovations. Social impact. Site visits.

Facilitated work in groups and themes. The groups work on their own case and familiarize themselves with the cases processed in the other groups: sharing experiences and material. Dinner cruise back to Otaniemi.

Working in groups: consolidating insights and creating prototypes to demonstrate outcomes for the final day exhibition.

Presentation of outcomes in ACSI Exhibition. Conference conclusion.

Page 12: Aalto Camp for Societal Innovation Proto

ACSI will be based on Knowledge Triangle methodology, self-organising

innovation and concepts of rapid prototyping. This means that the ACSI core

operations

•are actualized through the integration of learning, research and innovation into a

coherent series of tasks,

•are orchestrated, facilitated and measured, and

•take place in ACSI Learning Environment where they are supported by relevant

administration tasks.

The Knowledge Triangle method will be translated into a systematic operating

concept which will crystallize the methodological and pedagogical core of the

integration of research, education and innovation

The conceptualized operation mode will allow a gradual implementation of a way

of working that minimizes diverse interfaces and creates flexible connections

between different actors in the society.
