    About AAMT 2013About AAMT 2013About AAMT 2013About AAMT 2013About AAMT 2013

Today's world is very technology orient and is slowly evolvingin a direction to enable people with disabilities. Having accessto technology puts people with disabilities in the mainstream

of life, prepares them for employment and interaction, buildstheir self-confidence, allows them to make choices and exercisecontrol of their options. However, the specialized assistivesoftware/hardware required by some students with disabilitieslags behind the technology curve. If the technology designerdoes not make certain that their new tool will function withexisting assistive technologies, then the users of assistivetechnology fall behind. Also, Assistive technologies areexpensive and updating them can create an economic hardshipon the user with a disability.

The National Conference on Advances in Assistive andMainstream Technologies for Persons with Special Needs

(AAMT 2013) aims to bring together academicians, leadingengineers, industry researchers and students to exchange andshare their experiences and research results about all aspectsof Advances in Assistive and Mainstream Technologies, anddiscuss the practical challenges encountered and the solutionsadopted. The benefits of attending the conference areconsiderable for established academics and new scientistsalike. The participants will get the opportunity to present theirresearch and share it with scientists and academia from allover India. Also, the participants will stay up to date with thelatest advances in the field and they will have the chance todiscuss possible future collaborations.

About the InstituteAbout the InstituteAbout the InstituteAbout the InstituteAbout the InstituteShri Vishnu Engineering College for Women (SVECW) wasestablished during academic year 2001-2002 to empowerwomen in professional courses. The college has the vision todevelop the students with a disciplined and integratedpersonality and to achieve academic excellence, thus makingSVECW the first choice of students and staff.

SVECW has witnessed significant growth within a period of10 years and stands out as one of the best engineering collegesin AP. In recognition of its progressive strides, the World Bankhas granted TEQIP phase II project to SVECW and Indian

Merchants Chamber (IMC) recognized with a trophy for thequality of education imparted.

Assistive Technology Lab (ATL) works for a very unique and

a noble cause of designing projects by the students of SVECW

to benefit the differently-abled. This is a small but definite

step to mainstream people with disabilities into society.ProfessorAlan RuxAlan RuxAlan RuxAlan RuxAlan Rux, founder of the Assistive Technology Program

at the University of Massachusetts, Lowell, USA, visits SVECW

every year in the month of July and guides students in developing

    projects related to Assistive Technology.

ATL provides a rich, authentic learning experience for students,

one which allows them to really learn and experience the

engineering design process, apply their academic skills in a

real-world context, and allows them to develop important

workplace skills not usually taught in the classroom. Each

project team has to brainstorm and analyze alternative design

solutions, and justify their chosen design; they must work within

a budget, analyze the cost of various design alternatives, and

in the end, make a presentation outlining their design work

    and final solution.

Scope of the ConferenceScope of the ConferenceScope of the ConferenceScope of the ConferenceScope of the Conference

We encourage Engineers, Therapists, Teachers, Social workers,

Service providers, Researchers, Manufacturers, End users and

all those directly or indirectly involved in the field of Assistive

Technology and Mainstream Technology, to participate and

contribute to the advancement of this multidisciplinary area,

so that outcomes of this Conference will help to improve the

quality of life of persons with disabilities and senior citizensolder persons in India.
