‘AN INDEPENDENT PUBLIC SCHOOL’

Newsletter 6/15 28th May 2015

IT Report Last year the focus at Bibra Lake PS was on the computer lab in the Library which included replacing all the computers with new leased PC’s. The other two computer leases in the classrooms have been replaced as well. After consultation with the staff Bibra Lake PS decided to have one PC in Rooms 8- 14. Rooms 1-6 and ECC classrooms opted for 2 laptops to create more flexibility. Additional second hand computers have been purchased to make the Science Lab a larger bank of computers. In 2014 Bibra Lake PS has: • Replaced the computers in the library computer lab

to have 30 new computers; enough for every student in a class.

• Ensured each block has at least 4 computers in the shared block area.

• Replaced all old corded and wireless microphones used for assemblies.

• Maintained the interactive whiteboards throughout the school.

• Disposed of many old, unused computers, monitors, printers and scanners.

Focus for 2015 • Install wireless infrastructure in Blocks 2–4. • Purchase/lease i-pads including storage and charging

solutions for the ECC and Block 1 classes. • Professional development for teachers who will use

i-pads in ECC and Block 1. • Continue to improve the PA system in the

undercover area by replacing the old speakers mounted in the ceiling.

We also continue to focus on the use of interactive whiteboards and develop teacher confidence through sharing ideas and professional learning.

We want to know what you think!! The faction carnival is coming up. We would like your opinion regarding student participation. Previously senior primary students (Yr 3-6) returned to class during junior games and vice versa for the junior primary (PP – 2). We would like to know ‘Should the students remain on the oval all day to watch and support their team mates? A Skoolbag survey has been sent, please complete and return the survey as soon as possible.

Uniforms A big pat on the back must be given to all of the students who have been doing a fantastic job wearing their school uniforms. Congratulations! There are a few however who need to be more consistent.

Please support the school by sending your children to

school in the correct uniform. Thank you.

Our Year One’s look fantastic in their school uniforms

Room 5 Tackles Litter Problem We have a beautiful school and a great community and Room 5 doesn’t want it spoiled by having ugly rubbish lying around.

We decided to do our part to protect children, animals

and our schools environment. We discovered a big, ugly litter problem behind the basketball court and decided to adopt this nature plot.

To help tackle the issue Keep Australia Beautiful donated some resources to help with the clean-up. In the first week we collected 152 pieces of litter, that’s three huge bags of recyclables and one bag of rubbish. In the second week we collected one small bag of recyclables and one huge bag of rubbish. Our last collection was even smaller.

Room 5 are doing their bit! Imagine what we could achieve if we all did ‘our bit’!

We’d like to see everyone get involved in helping to keep our school clear of litter. Take some action now to keep our school beautiful.

Room 5 is Recycling Oral Health Products Join Rooms 3 and 5 in promoting recycling and making a difference in our community. Bring toothpaste tubes and packaging boxes, caps, floss containers, toothbrushes and packaging to school and place them in the box outside the office.

This waste will be up cycled into new plastic products such as containers, benches and bins. Don’t forget to put used batteries in the battery box as well. You can make a difference.

Ring for Limbs We are collecting Ring Pulls and donating them to Rotary who run a programme which supports developing prosthetic limbs and equipment for people in need in overseas countries. To help, all you need to do is to recycle your ring pulls and steel or aluminium can lids and bring them to School and place them in the collection bins that have been placed in each Block. Liz from Rotary spoke to the students at a recent Assembly showing slides to the students.

Nepal Earthquake Thanks to everybody for your generous donations on the free dress day we held to support children affected by the Nepal earthquake. We raised over $550 which was immediately passed on via the Friends of Nepal Inc.

Enrolments for 2016 Kindy Enrolments are now open for children born

1st July 2011 to 30th June 2012 Enrolments are now open for 2016. Forms are available from the office or can be downloaded from our web site.. Birth Certificates and proof of address (Synergy, Alinta Gas, drivers license or phone accounts) are required. Immunisation details will be required upon acceptance into our school. If you are aware of any families living within our ‘local intake’ area with children that will be eligible for Kindy in 2016, please advise them of the above information. Pre-Primary 2016 Letters have been sent to all Kindy students requesting confirmation for ‘proof of address’. Out of Area Students ‘Application for Enrolment’ forms will be given to all ‘out of area’ students and placements will be confirmed by the end of August. Closing date for these forms is 24th July 2015. In area students These students are not required to complete an ‘Application for Enrolment’ form. These students are automatically accepted after confirming proof of address.

Immunisation Information for Parents Immunisation programs in our community are designed to keep everyone well and safe, especially those people who are most at risk, such as babies. Parents or legal guardians who do not immunise their child should note the following: In the case of a Measles or Pertussis (whooping cough) outbreak, Western Australian schools are required by the Department of Health, to exclude students who have not received the appropriate number of vaccinations. Please make sure your school-aged child are fully immunised and that you have provided a copy of the

ACIR immunisation record to the school. Did you know that as parents you can ring the National registry or go to the web site to check out your child’s immunisation status? All you need is your Medicare number. Phone 1800 653 809 or access the web site: www.humanservices.gov.au or email [email protected]
