    Overview

    Aarhus University will again be running their Winter School program during January 2015. The

    program involves two key courses which cover European business and finance, communication and

    culture.

    The courses offered through the Winter School are most suited to students enrolled in Business-

    related degrees however students in non-Business related disciplines may also be able to gain

    elective credit toward their degree.

    Students participating in the program will gain credit towards their Macquarie degree by taking

    Application and eligibility

    Students must apply online to Macquarie Abroad no later than 5th October 2014. The application and

    instructions are available online at

    Successful students will then be guided through the rest of the application process for Aarhus.

    All students MUST provide 2 email referees. The first MUST be a Macquarie Academic, while the

    second reference MUST be a non-academic referee.

    Students must have a minimum GPA of 2.5 and must satisfy other criteria specified in the Student

    Exchange Terms and Conditions.

    The Aarhus Winter School is open to Undergraduate students only.

    Important Program dates

    In 2015, the program will run for 2 weeks from 5th January to 16th January and will be structured as

    follows:

    Week 1: 6 -10 January

    Denmark and Europe

    Week 2: 13 - 17 January

    A European and Scandinavian Approach to CSR Communication OR Corporate Communication in

    a European Context

    Course details

    All students will participate in the same course during Week 1, Denmark and Europe. Students must

    choose one of two courses to study during Week 2, either A European and Scandinavian Approach

    to CSR Communication OR Corporate Communication in a European Context.

    Classes during Weeks 1 and 2 will take place from 9:00 - 12:00 and 13:00 - 16:00 from Monday to

    Thursday.

    There will be an examination at the end of each course which will take place Friday from 9:00 - 12:00

    both weeks. In addition to the written exam, each student must hand in an individual written paper.

    The paper must be of approximately 15 pages and handed in one month after completion of the

    course. All exams are two-parted and not possible to split.

    All courses are a mixture of lectures, classroom workshops, discussions and exercises. Students

    should expect to spend at least one hour preparing for each lesson.

    The Winter School requires students full participation and attendance.

    Week 1: Denmark and Europe

    Outline:

    The course provides an introduction to Denmark and the Danes, Danish values and the Danish

    Welfare State. Additionally, the course will provide an understanding of Denmark's relation to the EU

    and Europe.

    2. Danish Values

    3. The Danish Welfare State

    4. What is the European Union?

    5. The EU and member states

    6. The strategic challenges

    7. The EUs role on the international

    scene

    Week 2, Option A: A European and Scandinavian Approach to CSR Communication

    Aarhus recommends that students have a background within Business in order to participate in this

    course.

    Outline:

    CSR management and CSR communication is a growing field of interest in todays public and private

    organisations. The course aims to provide students with insights into basic concepts, theories and

    models of CSR and with skills enabling them to implement, organize and evaluate CSR strategies

    and activities that comply with the challenges that CSR offers for corporate communication and

    stakeholder relationship management.

    Topics covered:

    1. Core definitions, perspectives and

    perceptions of CSR

    2. Central theories, models and concepts

    within CSR management and

    communication

    3. Various types of CSR initiatives and

    activities

    4. CSR reporting

    5. Code of conduct

    6. CSR innovation and networks

    Week 2, Option B: Corporate Communication in a European Context

    Outline:

    This course aims to provide students with a basic insight into theories and methodological

    approaches to corporate communication as an important upcoming and strategic discipline of todays

    business. The course will provide students with skills of planning and undertaking tasks of corporate

    communication in European companies and organisations.

    Topics covered:

    1. Corporate communication in European

    organisations: Trends and perspectives

    2. Corporate branding

    3. Corporate identity, image and

    reputation

    4. Integrated communication planning

    5. The stakeholder approach

    6. Media management

    7. Change and crisis communication

    Program Assessment

    All assignments and assessment will be conducted by AU BSS.

    Grades are awarded on an individual basis for the written exams and individual paper at the end of

    each course. Each exam will last for three hours and be an open book exam. The individual paper is

    to be submitted one month after completion of the course. Grades are given according to the Danish

    Grading System.

    Each course carries a weight of 5 ECTS.

    Aarhus University will issue an individual grade report for each participant. The grade report will be

    sent to Macquarie approximately one month after the completion of the Winter School.

    Credit Transfer

    Students will receive 3 credit points worth of BBA or ECON credit at 300 level for the Aarhus program

    as a whole, regardless of which Option they choose to study in Week 2.

    Undergraduate students must have their subject approved by the academic departments at

    Macquarie prior to leaving for Aarhus. More information about this process will be given to successful

    applicants after they have been accepted into the program by Macquarie.

    Students will need to obtain a signature from the Exemptions Officer at the relevant department on a

    specific Study Plan form. This will indicate the year level, subject area and credit point value of the

    unit being undertaken. Students should keep copies of all approval and enrolment forms.

    The results will be recorded as Satisfactory or Fail and, provided they pass, will not affect their

    GPA.

    Costs

    To apply to participate in the program, students must submit an application to Macquarie International

    via the online application system.

    A non-refundable application fee of $75 will apply for all Macquarie Short Term Programs.

    Payment can be made via the following two options:

    1. Internet transfer

    The Cashiers Office is located on the ground floor in the Lincoln Building adjacent to the Student Enquiry Service. It is open from 9am to 5pm, Monday to Friday (excluding public holidays).

    Credit cards, EFTPOS and cheques are accepted at the Cashiers counter.

    Should you choose this option, please clearly indicate to the staff member the same reference details as above: Exchange + your surname + short term application fee.

    Students will also be responsible for the following costs:

    Accommodation at Aarhus (cost to vary)

    Airfare (price subject to change depending on time of booking) Students must not purchase

    airfare or make travel arrangements until they have been formally accepted by Aarhus.

    Living expenses for the duration of the program. Amounts will vary according to personal

    taste and will include meals, travelling around Denmark and social activities.

    Students will be enrolled in a corresponding exchange unit at Macquarie for the Aarhus

    program. Fees must be paid to Macquarie for this unit or deferred to HECS as usual.

    Students do not pay tuition fees to Aarhus.

    Travel Insurance

    Students will have to purchase Travel Insurance for the duration of the program covering them from

    the date they depart Australia until the date that they return. Students will receive further information

    regarding this once they have been accepted into the program.

    Accommodation

    Students need to pay for their own acommodation. In 2015, Aarhus recommends the following

    accommodation options to students, with more information available via the link below:

    Hotel Cabinn: cheap accommodation with free Internet.

    Aarhus University Guesthouse: cheap commodation that is similar to typical student

    housing. They ask that two or three students book together. One contact person writes to the

    Guest House with the names of the other persons in their room for booking.

    Mobility Scholarships

    Eligible students participating in the program may receive a Macquarie mobility scholarship, as per

    the terms and conditions found via the link below:

    Mobility scholarships are intended to assist students in participating in student mobility programs.

    While the scholarships will assist in meeting program expenses, they are not intended to cover all

    costs and cannot be processed on demand. Grants are processed after the pre-departure session,

    close to the start date of the overseas program.

    Applicants will need to be able to meet the costs of the program independently of the mobility

    scholarship.

    Students do NOT need to apply for the mobility scholarship separately. Students accepted into the

    program.

    OS Help

    In the event that you should require additional financial assistance, the Department of Education,

    Employment and Workplace Relations (DEEWR) has announced the provision of loans to assist

    Australian students undertake some of their undergraduate study overseas. The scheme is known as

    OS-HELP.
