Why does CPD matter?CPD stands for continuing professional development. Think of it as a learning cycle that will help you to keep your skills and knowledge continually up to date throughout your career.
Compliance with our CPD policy is a condition of your AAT membership – but it’s about so much more than checking the boxes. Boosting your knowledge and developing your skills could transform your career in so many ways.
CPD explained
63 Book an event at aat.org.uk/cpd2016 or call +44 (0)20 3735 2456 64Professional development guide 2016 | CPD explained
How do I get started? Most of our members need to follow our CPD Cycle. It includes four clear steps and helps you to get the most from completing your CPD.
Assess
Start by thinking about the areas where you excel, and identifying those areas where you could improve.
Plan
Once you’ve assessed your learning needs, it’s time to plan your activities. Our tips are to keep your CPD varied, and to be realistic about how much time you have to spend.
Action
There are so many ways you can complete your CPD – and there’s hundreds of ideas in this guide. Don’t forget that informal learning, such as meetings or mentoring can all count too.
Evaluate
Think about what you’ve enjoyed, what you’ve gained, and how you’re going to use your new knowledge going forward.
Where can I find the latest resources?Everything in this guide could count towards your CPD. You can also find the latest resources by:
• checking your monthly CPD email
• reading the Discover CPD section of your Accounting Technician magazine
• following @YourAAT on Twitter and look out for our #DiscoverCPD tips.
How do I record my CPD?The easiest way to manage your CPD is by completing your online CPD Record. This will help you stay on track and will make the process easier if you’re selected for CPD monitoring.

Event presentations and notes
Event notes will usually be provided on the day of the event. They are intended to supplement speaker presentations rather than to be self-sufficient. For this reason we are not able to provide copies of the event presentations to delegates who did not attend the event or provide additional copies at a fee.
Event feedback
After you attend an AAT event you will be invited to share your feedback online. We use your feedback to plan our future schedule and ensure our event programmes remain relevant and quality driven, so we strongly encourage you to share your comments with us.
Our CPD events pricing policy
We are dedicated to providing our members with events that are high quality and excellent value. As of Friday 1 January 2016, the price of our CPD events will increase for the first time since 2012. This reflects the steady rise in external costs involved in producing our events, such as speaker fees, venue hire and catering costs. It also enables us to continue to invest in an enhanced events programme, which features more new topics, expert speakers, and is tailored specifically to our members’ needs.
Our events remain heavily subsidised and all paid-for events are supported by a number of free resources. Find out more by visiting aat.org.uk/eventpricing
