1. General
This user manual describes details of testing ABB RET615 relays with the OMICRONProtection Test Template. General information on the usage of OMICRON Protection Testing Library
items can be found in the OMICRON PTL user manual.
The template has been tested with the following relay:Manufacturer: ABBModel: RET615Firmware Version: 2.0.5
1.1 Supported Relays
The following relays can be tested with the Protection Test Template:
RET615 Variant A
RET615 Variant B
RET615 Variant C
RET615 Variant D
2. Software and Hardware Requirements
To use this template, you must have a valid test license for the OMICRON Test Universe 2.40software orhigher versions and the following test modules:
Control Center
Quick CMC
Ramping
Advanced Differential
State Sequencer
Overcurrent
A CMC test set with six current outputs is required. A CMA 156current amplifier may be additionallyrequired for testing with higher currents e.g. relays with 5A current measuring inputs.

3. Hardware
There are multiple possibilities of wiring a RET615relay to a CMC test set. The advised connections areshown inFigure 1.These connections are the default settings in the Hardware Configurationof the PTT.

Hardware configuration for earth-fault protection on winding 1 side
For testing of earth-fault protection functions (low or high impedance restricted earth-fault, non-directionalearth-fault) on the winding 1 side the connection should be changed as the diagram below:

5.1 Specialties of the Additional Information Block
Transformer Data
The information on the nominal power of the protected object should be entered under the "NominalPower". This parameter is used to display the transformer model in the test report correctly.
Configuration Details
The Configuration Detailsblock contains specific information of the tested relay. The "Relay Variant"parameter automatically collects the relay variant from the Relay Parameter Section. The Generic Timerblock contains the parameter "Pulse time" for adjustment of the duration of the TRIP output signal.
6. Specific Protection Tests
In this chapter any existent test specialty of the ABB RET615 Protection Test Templatethat differs from
the explained in the OMICRON PTL user manual is described.
6.1 Differential Protection
Diff Configuration test
Test modules for faults in winding 1 and winding 2 are available, but only the test modules of thereference side will be active. This is valid for all vector group settings.The configuration test for L-N and L-L fault types is not supported for Clock number settings of2, 4, 8 or10. The correspondent test module is deactivated in any of these cases.
Diff Operating Characteristic test
The operating characteristic test for L-N and L-L fault types is not supported for Clock number settings of2, 4, 8 or10. The correspondent test modules are deactivated in any of these cases.
6.2 Low Impedance Restricted Earth-fault
External fault
An external fault is simulated using the State Sequencertest module. The angle between the residualcurrent (calculated 3I0) and the neutral current (measured IN) is set in external fault range and the relayshould not trip.
Pick-up
The pickup of the low impedance restricted earth-fault stage is tested with the Rampingtest module. Thefault current (neutral current IN) is ramped until the relay picks up.
Trip time
The trip time is tested by simulating an internal fault. The State Sequencertest module is used for the trip
time test.
Harmonic blocking
The harmonic blocking is tested by simulating an internal fault with high content of the second harmonic.The Rampingtest module is used to decrease the second harmonic content to a value at which the relaytrips.This value is then compared to the first harmonic content and assessed.

6.3 High Impedance Restricted Earth-fault
Pick-up and drop-off
The pickup and drop-off of the high impedance restricted earth-fault stage is tested with the Rampingtestmodule. The fault current (neutral current 3IN) is ramped until the relay picks up. The second ramp should
decrease until the relay's start signal drops off.
Trip time
The trip time is tested by simulating an internal fault with the Overcurrenttest module. Test points arepreset in this test, but they can be adjusted by the user if necessary.
