2. What is the single most important consideration that qualifies you to be a

distinguished Aditya Birla Scholar

The greater danger for most of us lies not in setting our aim too high and falling short;

but in setting our aim too low, and achieving our mark.-Michelangelo

Since childhood, I have always believed in dreaming big and aiming high. My mother,

who is a teacher, has constantly motivated and helped me focus towards achieving my

goals. The financially tough and stressful times we had to go through have left a lasting

impression me. During tough times, I always derive my strength from her qualities of

grit and perseverance.

At school, I always strived to excel in my academics and was consistently ranked among

the top 3 in my batch. After securing an AIR of 412 in IIT-JEE, I joined IIT Bombay where

I received opportunities to be involved in various roles which further refined my

personality. Having joined Educell-an Educational Start-up, I mentored 10 students in

their JEE preparation through distance learning sessions. After sharing individual

concerns, discussing their problems and motivating them over a six-month long period,

the gratification and pride I felt when four of those students eventually made it to the

IITs was indeed a special personal moment for me.

Also, as a Student Journalist and a member of NSS at IIT, I always made it my endeavour

to bring forth the problems of students and other campus residents thereby improving

their lives through my work. My articles and blogs raised concerns about the living

conditions of mess workers and other hostel staff, prompting the concerned authorities

to take action. Though it involved a lot of meetings and bureaucratic hassles, my

initiative did have the desired final impact and led to separate rooms being provided to

the staff on the hostel premises itself.

I firmly believe in the pursuit of excellence and have tried giving my absolute best to

achieving those goals. During my education thus far, I have been fortunate enough to

have had significant academic and extra-curricular accomplishments. However, the

desire for personal success is a quality intrinsic to every individual and what sets one

apart is to nurture his innate humaneness despite todays competitive environment. It is

this will to travel that extra mile, even for others that sets me apart as a person.These

qualities of relentlessly striving for excellence and empathy towards the people around

me, qualify me to be an Aditya Birla Scholar.
