The ABI 3900 High-Throughput DNA Synthesizer is an economical, versatile

platform that synthesizes DNA oligos with rapid cycle times, low reagent

consumption, and incomparable reliability. As the applications of genetic

analysis, PCR-based, and other probe-based hybridization assays expand,

so does the need for oligos. The solution: the ABI 3900 Synthesizer—

designed for production-level environments, where the need for flexibility

is high, tolerance for down-time is low, and bench space is limited.

A Perfect Balance

The ABI 3900 Synthesizer is an economical and versatile platform that is ideal for synthesizing primers and probes, fluorescently-labeled oligos, and production synthesis. It fits compactly in most workspaces, and easily synthesizessequences with lengths greater than 50-mer at scales of 40 nmol, 0.2 µmol, and 1 µmol.

High-Throughput Capacity

The ABI 3900 Synthesizer features parallel, unattended 48-column synthesis and has 40 and 200 nmol cycle times

of less than 5 minutes for 48 couplings. The instrument hasthe ability to synthesize up to 288 40 and 200 nmol scale oligos (20-mers) in a ten-hour workday with minimal user

intervention (excludes cleavage and deprotection).

Optimized Chemistry

The 3900 system uses Applied Biosystems proprietary

FastPhoramidite® ß-cyanoethyl chemistry. The FastPhoramidite®

reagent set is distinguishable from the standard set by theprotecting group on the G monomer. In the FastPhoramidite

set, the more labile dimethylformamide replaces the isobutryl

group and allows the removal of the protecting group in justone hour at 65°C.

Superior Columns

3900 DNA synthesis is performed on unique polystyrene-filled ABI 3900HT Columns in scales of 40 nmol, 0.2 µmol,

and 1 µmol. Polystyrene columns and supports have advantages over conventional controlled pore glass (CPG)

columns. The greater hydrophobicity of polystyrene results

in a higher yield of the full-length product. Side reactions,such as extraneous chain growth, are minimized by the inertnature of this support surface.

Simple Design

The ABI 3900 synthesizer has 14 amidite bottle positions

located in the front panel where they are easily accessible.Reagents are positioned in the side panel for added convenience.

Customer-site installation by a service representative isincluded. A software and synthesis training package, and one-year warranty on parts and labor, are also included with system purchase.
